SIXTH RACE

-

TULA might be the deceptive clear speed in this utterly paceless race, and that should give her the edge against an evenly matched field of claimers; expecting Gallardo to be aggressive with her in the opening stages and try to clear them quickly from her outside post. ANIMAUXSELLE doesn’t win often but she was able to get up under Ferrer two back, and she has been in good form all year long despite losing 10 races; tactical speed should mean she gets the jump on the closers. CHAMPAGNE HORIZON is one of those who does her best running late but she showed four back that she can stay close if the pace is controlled, and that should be the case here; late threat if she doesn’t get caught too far back behind mild splits.

SEVENTH RACE

SHERO is out of a dam who won five races, four of them sprints on the main track, and she produced two multiple winners in Iron Alex (four wins, $60K in earnings) and Kates Golden Dude (six victories, $112K); the latter won his own career debut and this filly does meet a seemingly average field for her bow. TOASTNJAM sprints on the main track for the first time since January, having raced exclusively on the turf since then, but she didn’t run badly at all in that race and she was in against much better there; in fact, this is her lowest level yet, and that makes her a top contender in this field. BANK’S APPLAUSE didn’t improve much with the addition of blinkers and Lasix but she has shown speed and should be a pace factor with this field, which doesn’t feature all that much early zip.

EIGHTH RACE

STELLAR GRACE didn’t make up much ground in the speedy Colleen Stakes at five furlongs but this filly, by Verrazano, should appreciate the extra ground she gets in this Sorority Stakes; plenty of speed to her inside to set her up for a late run as she makes her 2nd start off the layoff for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who wins at 20% with such runners. MISCHIEVOUS DREAM also comes out of sprints, and figures to be able to sit off the pace and make one run despite the stretch-out, as she rated effectively in both of her two sprint tries thus far; dam won a pair of turf routes and her other winning sibling, Keepthedreamalive, won three turf races. FLYING ALETHA stretches out for trainer Wesley Ward after a solid effort in the Colleen; dangerous if she can work out a trip off the speeds, though she could be overbet some off that line and given the connections.

NINTH RACE

TUESDAY’S ROSE was second in each of her last two, and the Beyers she posted in those races stand out in this field; she’s going to be a handful if she’s able to run to them and there’s little reason to think she can’t or won’t, as she should be nicely spotted behind expected speeds WOMAN FLYER and LA PURISSIMA. The latter will look to steal this, as long as she doesn’t face too much pressure from the former; she faded last time after pressing the pace from the start but she has been posting Beyers which put her in the mix with these. EXCEED THE GOAL faced much better at Finger Lakes and Charles Town this year and she figures to appreciate the class relief today, even if this drop to the lowest level offered is a little suspicious; she ran well in two starts here last year.

TENTH RACE

PLAN OF ATTACK seemed to have some traffic trouble in that loss two back on the turf, and his latest, on the main track, is easy to look past; should be well spotted behind the speeds and he can pull off the upset given a clean trip and a contested pace up front. SOUTHERN BRIGADE was second under similar conditions in his latest and the resulting Beyer makes him a clear danger in this finale; should be in an ideal spot behind a contested pace. BOB IN OUR MIDST doesn’t have the best of win percentages but he does the ability to lead or rate, and he does have upside as he gets back on his preferred surface. 175 Oceanport Ave. Oceanport, NJ 07757 (732) 222-5100
