How to play

- By Kenny Peck

RACE 6:

GET THE NEWS was a close 2nd against slightly richer in his latest and the resulting Beyer makes him very dangerous in this opening leg of the Late Pick 4. Further, his running style fits the race flow perfectly, as he has a decent stretch kick and there’s plenty of speed to his outside; standing alone with him to kick things off (1).

RACE 7:

Lots of variables in this turf route, with several horses stretching out, a couple switching to the grass from the main track and a few trying the surface for the first time. Given the difficulty of plotting the race flow and the uncertain form it seems best to cast as big a net as possible and hope for a price (10).

RACE 8:

Clearly, The Prince of Wales Stakes is MIGHTY HEART’s race to lose. He has a huge edge in figures, thanks to an authoritative score in the Queen’s Plate against a better field than he meets here, and this race features several of the same rivals.

He won the Queen’s Plate on the lead but he can also come from off the pace if need be, and that versatility gives him the opportunity to work out a favorable trip from his inside post (1).

RACE 9:

Likely favorite Stolen Identity is a regression candidate off that career-best score in his latest, as he draws widest today and may not have the luxury of another loose lead. He will be a pace factor, however, and his presence should mean the pace is quick, and with speed to his inside it will also very likely be contested. I’ll side with the closers, including BE THE CHANGE, STORMY LEO, CAPTAIN SIDNEY and RED FROG (4).

THE PLAY: 2 / ALL / 2 / 1, 2, 5, 6 = 40 Combinations ($8 Ticket).
