ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The aptly named Souper Sensational will make her stakes debut in Saturday’s $100,000 Glorious Song, a seven-furlong Tapeta sprint for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

Souper Sensational was no secret when she debuted in a seven-furlong maiden special here Sept. 26. Sent off as the favorite in a quality field, she stalked the leaders along the inside before Patrick Husbands angled her wide for the drive. She proceeded to outrun blue-blooded Speightstown Shirl in the stretch to score by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:23.54, which was good for a 76 Beyer Speed Figure. There was a 9 3/4-length gap back to the third-place finisher.

Souper Sensational was a $725,000 Saratoga yearling purchase by Live Oak Plantation. Trainer Mark Casse said the Kentucky-bred daughter of Curlin has been highly regarded all along.

“She’s a beautiful filly,” said Casse, who has won the Glorious Song eight times. “She started her training at Live Oak. We had her at our training center in Ocala for a while. Everybody who’s had her thought that she was something special. When she first started breezing at Woodbine, [assistant trainer David Adams] thought she was really something.”

Souper Sensational worked a half-mile in a rapid 46.60 on Oct. 9, the fastest of 33 Tapeta drills at the distance.

Casse supplemented the maiden Right to Freedom to the Glorious Song. She has worked regularly here on the Tapeta since finishing out of the money in two summer starts at Keeneland and Saratoga.

Rocket Reload graduated second time out in a fivefurlong dash on the inner turf. She wound up third most recently in the Sept. 19 Woodbine Cares Stakes, also at five furlongs over the inner turf. Mike DePaulo trains the Kentucky-bred daughter of leading Ontario freshman sire Reload, who’s shedding the blinkers.

Reinforced easily won her only start in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special Sept. 3, going gate to wire for a 71 Beyer. Her trainer, Josie Carroll, has won the Glorious Song five times.

Javanica has raced twice, both times on the grass at Arlington, finishing fourth at first asking against males before taking a one-mile maiden special with a 76 Beyer on Sept. 18. Trained by Eoin Harty, she worked twice on the dirt at Hawthorne this month leading up to her first synthetic track start.

Charlie’s Penny aired by seven lengths the only time she saw action, which came in a five-furlong maiden special over Arlington’s Polytrack on Sept. 17. She got an 82 Beyer. Chris Block trains the Minnesota-bred by Race Day.

Vancouver shipper Heidi rounds out the field. She won a six-furlong maiden sprint by five lengths when debuting Sept. 27 on dirt at Hastings, earning a 48 Beyer. Dino Condilenios trains the daughter of Bayern.
