BEST BET: RACE 8, BASSO FIRST RACE

WHO IS JARETT is entered for the Main Track Only for his first start since January, and with an uncertain weather forecast this week it does seem possible he gets to run; has proven speed and some very sharp works for his first start for trainer Tom Clark, who does very well with new faces and with horses off long layoffs. R RAJUN BULL is easy to like based on the Beyer he posted in his first and only try sprinting on the turf, in his career debut; he meets lesser here and makes his first start as a gelding for trainer Kathleen DeMasi, who wins at a solid rate with turf sprinters. EARS UP weakened after setting a pressured pace in his first start on grass last time but he has license to go much further if able to shake loose in the opening stages.

SECOND RACE

BANGLE GAL has faced better in each of her last two starts since the win against a step lesser three back, an off-the-turf sprint run over a sloppy track; she was overmatched in both of those starts but didn’t run all that badly and she does figure to appreciate this move back into a claimer. OCEANO ROSSO makes her first start off the claim for Team Farro, which enjoyed a strong start at the Meadowlands-at-Monmouth meet; has speed but can also rate off the pace and make one run if need be. SIZZLING ROMA was in over her head against starter allowance runners in her first start since shipping up from Florida but she figures to improve today given the drop back into a claimer.

THIRD RACE

JUAN PABLO is the pick whether this race is run on dirt or turf, as the Beyers he posted in his last two against better were solid and he was a decent 2nd the last time he was on the main track, back in June at Tampa; stone closer needs pace but should get it. CHEYENNE BULL had traffic trouble two back and then didn’t get enough pace in his latest, when off the board against open $12,500 claimers; this amounts to a class drop, as this is a restricted race, and his best figures do put him in the mix. SADLER BAY doesn’t win often but he does have steady figures and a decent late kick when given an honest pace and a clean trip; using him “underneath”, as he figures to be a square price once again.

FOURTH RACE

PULLING STRINGS was no threat in that debut against better but she gets off the rail today and may fare better with this wide draw, and she also figures to appreciate the class drop; dam won her own career debut and then was 2nd in the Jersey Juvenile Stakes in her 2nd career start. TIMED OUT has a solid late kick and should get at least an honest pace up front; she’s another who stands to benefit from the move from Maiden Special Weight company to maiden claimers. ATLANTIC PRINCESS took money for her debut but a slow start cost her position; still, she closed with interest, and she is a logical contender today with a clean getaway.

FIFTH RACE

BOOMERANG MISS ships back to Jersey after a try at Penn last time and she lands in a seemingly good spot as the potential controlling speed in an otherwise paceless race; she was unable to last two back despite a loose lead but that was a sixteenth longer, against better, and she was caught up in a duel in her prior try. HARDLY MATE cuts back in distance and draws wide but she has enough speed to stay close in the opening stages and that’s an edge if the pace is in fact controlled. WATCHIN THE WHEELS is on the AE list but she has to be strongly considered if she draws in, coming off a near miss in her latest; connections only add to the appeal.

SIXTH RACE

LOVELY LADY LEXI makes her first start off the claim for trainer Kieron Magee, who does well with such runners; ships in from Laurel and warrants a long look vs. the locals, as her Beyers stack up

well with these non-winners of two. LA BELLE

DE COURSE is winless in six prior starts at this common distance but she has run well in defeat on several occasions, including her latest; that 64 Beyer was the best figure of her career, not coincidentally a race where she had the race flow in her favor (bold “C” in DRF pp’s indicates closers had the edge) but still an effort that warrants respect, even if she could have trouble running back to it. EVAN’S NICE NOW has been getting checks steadily against similar in her recent tries, and her tactical speed should mean she’s well spotted just off the leaders once again.

SEVENTH RACE

FLY NIGHTLY benefited from fast fractions in that last one after slow splits cost him two back but what he didn’t get was a clean trip, as traffic cost him his best chance; adds blinkers today and figures to make his presence felt late if he gets clear sailing. BIG RED ROCKS makes his first start off the claim and is a top contender on the strength of his best figures; he has speed and an inside post, and though there is other speed in here he may be able to win this if he can rate and make one run. INDIAN BUZZ is wide but is also quick from the gate, and he figures to be a factor from the start despite the outside starting slot. DECLARED beat low-level maiden claimers at Presque Isle Downs last time out but he could prove a threat here if this race gets switched to dirt.

EIGHTH RACE

BASSO was a sharp winner on the lead in his debut but he was closing ground in the lane in the Smoke Glacken last time, and he should once again be expected to make a late impact today with confirmed speed to his outside; if the pace is quick and contested he should be able to make the last run under Chris DeCarlo. EXOGEN is another who stands to benefit from the expected pace scenario, as she rallied nicely to win her debut with relative ease; tries males here as she makes her first start off the claim for Kelly Breen but good enough with the right set up. NO CENTS beat statebred maidens with the aid of a perfect trip but he merits respect off the resulting Beyer and he could well get a similar set up for the third straight time.

NINTH RACE

SUDDEN BRILLIANCE was off the board in her first start off the layoff but she didn’t run badly there, making a premature move to contend for the lead before she weakened late; shelved again, which is not ideal, but she fits nicely if she can run to her turf Beyers. COIN THE PHRASE has high speed and will look to steal this sprint, which marks her first start for a tag; she has blown clear leads in the past but she also has some of the best figures in the field. HYPERLOOP had trouble in two of her three turf/sprint tries to date, and in the other race she posted a 62 Beyer, which would likely be good enough to win this; dangerous given a clean trip and an honest pace.
