Once in a lifetime chance to acquire stellar - pedigreed mares that have never been offered before!

Sam-Son was founded as a thoroughbred nursery by Ernie Samuel in 1972, and has won nearly every accolade there is in horse racing. Smart Strike (Mr. Prospector out of Classy 'n Smart) proved to be one of the most influential sires of sires and broodmare sires of the last twenty years. He sired 155 Stakes Winners and founded an important branch of the Mr. Prospector sire line, his sire sons including Curlin, English Channel, and Lookin At Lucky. Of the 21 mares offered by Sam-Son at Keeneland, 6 are by Smart Strike and another 4 are from his family.

Sam-Son’s breeding performance statistics show an astounding level of success, far exceeding industry norms, including APEX ratings: Sam-Son bred 164 A-Runners from only 677 foals in the last 35 years, which is 24.2% A Runners/foals. It’s a higher percentage than any sire ever measured (Bill Oppenheim). It is also illustrated in the sample charts below: Every comparison underscores the high average quality of horses from Sam-Son Farm’s breeding program. Whether examining the percent of foals that start or win a race, the length of racing careers, or the quality of racing careers as measured by earnings and stakes wins, the performance of Sam-Son Farm bred horses is above average. (Jill Stowe, Associate Professor, University of Kentucky-Agricultural Economics)

*The breed averages used in this comparison comes from an article written by John P. Sparkman that appeared in the Thoroughbred Times (publication date unknown) titled “Averages for the breed.” The author pulled data from The Jockey Club’s database for all foals born between 1993-2002 at a time when those foals would have “essentially completed their racing careers”.
