GULFSTREAM

-

asking at Monmouth, is trying blinkers off a layoff. Her esteemed trainer is 3 for 11 when using TGaff at the meet.

SEVENTH RACE

TRAFFIC PATTERN defeated $30K NW2 opponents with a 77 Beyer last out at Aqueduct, and is wellspotted vs. $20K NW3 company here with perennial leading Championship meet rider Irad Ortiz back aboard. MY GOOD MAN was disqualified from first for bumping a rival in a recent optional starter on the dirt at Laurel. He was shareless in two turf starts early in his career, but deserves another chance in the third race of his form cycle. JUAN PABLO brings decent Tampa form to this engagement, and isn’t out of his league from a Beyer perspective. Use POSITIVE PHIL on the bottom of vertical wagers.

EIGHTH RACE

HIGH FIVE COTTON had his four-race win streak snapped when a stalking second in a recent optional starter at Tampa. The hard-knocking veteran is moving out from six furlongs to try a middle distance for the first time in awhile, and has a good record at the distance. NACHO PAPA is the one to fear most off back-to-back seconds, including a narrow loss against similar under Saez. PRO QUALITY failed to duplicate his fast (90 Beyer) maiden score at GPW when third here a month ago behind a rival who came back to win at this level. Put CHARLIE THE GREEK on the bottom of exotic wagers.

NINTH RACE

R MAN JOE was in winning Gulfstream form before running back-to-back clunkers across town at GPW, most recently in a key five-furlong turf dash. He’s ditching the blinkers after working twice this month, and could get back on track under Paco, who’s 2 for 4 at the meet for Baxter. MACHO BLUE was on top of his game when he went to the sidelines last March. He can fire while fresh, but his cold trainer is 0 for 3 with six-month-plus comebackers. KYLE and STATION ROCK, who were both right there in a similar race Dec. 20, are two more possibilities in this wide open affair.

TENTH RACE

IMPECCABLE STYLE placed in two stakes last year at 3, most notably behind the future Kentucky Oaks winner Shedaresthedevil in the G3 Indiana Oaks. The daughter of Uncle Mo has been freshened since a flat third in an N1X at Keeneland, and should be ready to roll in this one-mile optional claimer off some solid drills at Palm Meadows.

PRINCESS BETTY beat two next-out winners in a dominant score over state-bred N1X/optional claimers a month ago. Irad is sticking with her. HEIRESSINDY hasn’t run a bad once since last spring, and BACHELOR’S BAIT could be rejuvenated following a layoff.

ELEVENTH RACE

EXPONENTIAL has a host of improvement angles going for him in this $35K maiden route, including first-time gelding, blinkers on, and first-time Lasix. He was second two back at GPW behind a rival who came back to capture a $50K optional starter with a 66 Beyer. BOHEMIAN BOY is debuting with a pedigree for the task at hand. He’s a full-brother to turf expert Pour Girl ($190K) and a stakes-placed first-out winner at 2. LORD FLINTSHIRE plodded along for second last time in his third start, and the son of Flintshire is bred to be a late bloomer. GANDOLFO has worked twice on the Palm Meadows grass since another double-digit loss Dec. 12, and could wake up with the addition of Lasix.
