Yonkers Raceway Stakes Analysis

- By Matt Rose

Yonkers Raceway hosts four major stakes for 3-year-olds including two Triple Crown events on Friday, July 1. Part of an 11-race card the action kicks off at 6:55 P.M.

Race 6: $104,790 Park MGM Filly Pace Final 3YO Filly Pace

(7) GOTTHEGREENLIGHT threw in a rare poor performance two back in a NYSS test at Monticello but bounced back with a decisive score at Vernon. Sire Stakes champ as a twoyear-old hasn’t shown a ton of early speed in her young career but if there is any driver who can get one off the gate, it’s Bartlett. (5) MADEIRA HANOVER has started off her sophomore campaign in solid fashion and the Linda Toscano trainee seems to be getting progressively better. (3) WICKEDLY INNOCENT makes her first start since moving to the Takter barn and she did recently impress up at Mohawk with two close defeats in the Fan Hanover. Filly did have some issues over the half as a two-year-old.

Race 7: $126,165 New York New York Mile Final 3YO Filly Trot

(6) JIGGY JOG S was recently a solid second in the NJSS final with Dexter Dunn driving the Svanstedt trotter, and he gets the call again. Wellmannered filly has good speed and figures to be just fine over the half-mile surface. (2) CASH INFUSION added the trotting hobbles a few starts back and that seemed to help straighten out the Ducharme trainee. She gets Gingras in the bike tonight from a good starting spot. (5) LITTLE PINK LIES was second best to Joviality S two back in a NYSS test at Yonkers and she’s another Svanstedt trainee in here with a legit chance.

Race 8: $261,730 MGM Grand Messenger Stakes Final 3YO C&G Pace

(4) GULF SHORES took control early in his elimination when it looked like nobody else was interested in the lead and he held safely over the trip-sitter after rating a comfortable pace. There figures to be much more early action in the final but the Brian Brown trainee may be better from off the pace anyway. Gingras should be in the perfect spot to get it done. (1) NAUTICAL HANOVER added Lasix two back and it seemed to help out this Captaintreacherous offspring as he cruised to a life mark two back in an overnight event. Alagna trainee was a good third behind the top choice in last week’s elimination and driver Todd McCarthy has options starting from the innermost post. (7) PLEASELETMEKNOW was the other elimination winner after blasting to the top and sprinting clear nicely in the late stages. I would assume Kakaley will try employing the same strategy. (8) PJ LOU is another speedster but is stuck all the way outside. With some luck he can land a piece.

Race 9: $280,904 MGM Yonkers Trot Final 3YO Open Trot

(7) JOVIALITY S will be favored here to become the first filly to win the Yonkers Trot in 25 years. With her blazing gate speed the outside post doesn’t figure to present any problems and once she makes the lead she just seems too talented to get passed. (8) JUSTICE was last week’s other elimination winner and unfortunately he’s stuck outside Joviality S in the eight hole but I can’t see that handicap preventing Svanstedt from firing off the gate. If he can somehow land in the pocket or at least somewhere midpack he’ll have the best chance to complete the exacta. (5) POUR MEA DOUBLE was really moving well in the late stages last week and he can build off that effort. Clear threat to hit the ticket. (3) DOUBLE DECEIVER was a nice earner as a freshman and acclimated well with a second-place finish in his elimination.
