How to play

- By Ron Gierkink

GP RACE 8: SIEGE OF BOSTON won a key maiden special easily with an 86 Beyer last out at Aqueduct under Alvarado, who retains the mount for hot trainer Toner. SARATOGA FLASH defeated three next-out winners when taking a $50K starter/optional claimer from a forward position here Dec. 24. PENNER ASH has been worked fast on the Tapeta at Turfway in advance of his first start for accomplished turf trainer Maker (3).

SA RACE 5: TEENA ELLA met some salty opposition in her two dirt starts. The daughter of 16 percent turf sprint sire War Front and Grade 1 winner Beholder could break through on the surface change to the grass with leading rider Hernandez back aboard. FOOLISH was a clear second when debuting in a $62.5K turf sprint and probably isn’t out of her league in this maiden-special. Her trainer is much better second time out than at first asking. First-timer CRIMSON SONATA is strongly bred for the grass on the dam’s side, and her trainer can have one ready (3)

GP RACE 9: SEDUCTION finished a clear second behind a future stakes winner when debuting in the slop at Aqueduct. Pletcher has scored at an excellent 23 percent clip with maiden second-timers going sprint to route over the past five years, with a return on investment of $1.64 (1).

SA RACE 6: YELLOW BRICK was third behind the future stakes performer Faustin on debut before an improved second when extending to a route most recently. Prat retains the mount and is 2 for 5 at the meet for Mandella. I DON’T GET IT earned the highest last-out Beyer in the field (82) when fourth in his six-furlong opener. The son of Preakness victor Cloud Computing is bred to go long (2).

GP RACE 10: Spreading out in this wide-open allowance/optional claimer by using six entrants, beginning with CANDLE, who nosed out a future stakes winner in her maiden triumph at Aqueduct. EME CLAIRE doesn’t have much turf breeding, but she got an 84 Beyer when graduating over Woodbine’s Tapeta. SCOTTISH SYMPHONY wasn’t beaten far when a chalky fourth in her turf debut here in a shorter two-turn event. OUTOFNOTHINGATALL worked quickly on the Palm Meadows turf on Jan. 29. AMERICAN ROCKETTE is dropping out of a tough Grade 2 stakes and is sent out by hot connections. BREATH AWAY notched her recent debut here on the grass as the favorite (6).

THE PLAY: 4, 7, 11 / 4, 8, 9 / 5 / 1, 3 / 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 = $108 ticket
