Reincarnate

Good Magic – Allanah, by Scat Daddy Bred in Kentucky by Woods Edge Farm ($775,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by SF Bloodstock, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables)

A classic-placed son of Curlin sired last year’s Kentucky Derby winner, as Keen Ice was represented by upsetter Rich Strike from his first crop. Another classic-placed son of Curlin comes in strong with his first crop of 3-year-olds this year. Reincarnate is one of several graded stakes winners for Good Magic, and, with a barn switch, is now eligible to earn Derby points in this weekend’s Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn.

Two-time Horse of the Year Curlin excelled in top-level routes and quickly made his mark as a consistent classic sire. He is the sire of 2013 Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice and 2014 Preakness Stakes winner Exaggerator, with his offspring Good Magic, Irish War Cry, Keen Ice, Nest, Ride On Curlin, and Tenfold all finishing on the board in Triple Crown races. In addition to Keen Ice siring Rich Strike, Curlin was represented last year by Exaggerator, sire of Belmont third-place finisher Skippy long stocking.

Good Magic won the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to secure the division’s Eclipse Award. The following year, he won the Blue Grass Stakes and Haskell Invitational and finished a fine second in the Kentucky Derby to Triple Crown winner Justify.

The young stallion was among the leaders of the 2022 freshman sire class, and his six stakes winners on the season included three who won Kentucky Derby points races. Blazing Sevens took the Grade 1 Champagne, Curly Jack won the Grade 3 Iroquois and was second in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club, and Dubyuhnell won the Grade 2 Remsen.

Additional standouts have emerged this year for Good Magic. Reincarnate won the Grade 3 Sham, while juvenile stakes winner How Did He Do That was second in the Riley Allison Derby, a prep toward the Sunland Derby.

Reincarnate’s dam, Allanah, notched all her wins on Turfway’s synthetic surface, winning the Cincinnati Trophy sprinting and taking two other races at a mile. With Reincarnate, her first stakes horse, she is now the dam of three winners from four starters, with two winners at a mile on dirt.

Allanah is a half-sister to Over Emphasize, who is multiple graded stakes-placed routing on turf. Names in this extended family include millionaire Richman, winner of the 1991 Louisiana Derby and Illinois Derby, and 1959 Preakness winner Royal Orbit.
