How to play

- By Ron Gierkink

GP RACE 8: If ready off the break, CONTEMPARY ART appears to lay over this allowance field. She displayed effective tactical speed during a productive three-race 2022 campaign that included a fourth-place finish in a Grade 3 stakes at Saratoga. The lone caveat is trainer Christophe Clement has won at just a 6 percent clip with new acquisitions exiting a six-month-plus layoff over the past five years. CHOCOLATEADDICTION, a promising juvenile at Woodbine in 2021, has been working bullets at Payson Park and could run big in her 4-year-old bow. FUENTE OVEJUNA placed in both of her starts here and is picking up the capable Leonel Reyes, who is 2 for 8 at the meet for trainer Brendan Walsh (3).

GP RACE 9: MISS DOMINA probably needed her Feb. 15 return from a long layoff, and the daughter of 16 percent synthetic sprint sire Dominus might take a shine to the Tapeta. FIRENSPICE brings improving turf form to this event and note that she did all of her damage on the Tapeta last year. FRENCH KISSING placed in all four of her turf outings and is by the good 15 percent synthetic-sprint sire Violence (3).

SA RACE 3: PAMMY’S READY has been working right along at San Luis Rey in preparation for her return from a layoff and was nearly victorious at this level in November at Del Mar. In a field devoid of speed, the stakes-placed 4-year-old should be forwardly placed under Ramon Vazquez, who is 3 for 14 at the meet for trainer Peter Miller (1).

GP RACE 10: BROADWAY CHARM is doubling in value off a $12,500 claim from a third-place finish in her debut on the dirt. The daughter of Street Sense is a half-sister to a pair of grass winners and could find her niche on the lawn. WAND resides in a live barn and was competitive in three of her five turf outings. KITTENZEN and BRETON GIRL are both getting some noteworthy class relief (4).

SA 5: ASHLEYS SANDCASTLE showed little on the dirt, but is strongly bred for the grass on the dam’s side and could wake up with the surface change. CANDY ON TOP displayed hanging tendencies while hitting the board in 6 of 11 grass starts. This may be a field that she can beat under leading rider Juan Hernandez. SHEZMISBEHAVING wasn’t far behind Candy On Top in third in her improved last race. LOVE OUR FAMILY wouldn’t be much of a surprise in her first start on Lasix (4).

THE PLAY: 2, 3, 9 / 1, 4, 5 / 3 / 5, 6, 9, 10 / 4, 5, 6, 9 = $144 ticket
