Honduras to build island prison

The country of Honduras is planning to build the only island prison colony in the Western Hemisphere. The goal is to prevent the most dangerous criminals and gang leaders from still operating from a prison. This comes following a gang-related massacre of 46 women in one of the country’s prisons. The archipelago that will host the prison is 155 miles off the coast of Honduras and will house 2,000 gang leaders. Island prisons used to be common in Latin America but the last one closed in Mexico in 2019.
