Hoosiers snap another streak

Indiana beats Wisconsin for first time in 10 years

MADISON, Wis. — Jack Tuttle threw two touchdown passes in his first career start and Indiana's defense made a stand in the final minute as the 10thranked Hoosiers outlasted No. 18 Wisconsin 14-6 on Saturday.

Indiana's victory snapped a 10-game skid in this series and enabled the Hoosiers (6-1, CFP No. 12) to tie a program record with its sixth Big Ten victory of the season. Indiana also earned six Big Ten wins in 1967 and 1987. The Hoosiers hadn't beaten Wisconsin since 2002.

Wisconsin (2-2, No. 16 CFP) drove deep into Indiana territory on its final drive, but Graham Mertz's fourth-and-10 pass to Chimere Dike from the 21 was broken up by Reese Taylor in the right corner of the end zone with 46 seconds left.

The Badgers drove inside Indiana's 40-yard line on five possession­s but had just six points to show for it.

Tuttle went 13 of 22 for 130 yards with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Peyton Hendershot and a 7-yard scoring strike toWhopPhil­yor. The Utah transferwa­s starting in place of Michael Penix Jr., who tore his anterior cruciate ligament last week in a 27-11 victory atMaryland.

Penix had thrown for 1,645 yards and 14 touchdowns while helping Indiana win five of its first six games.

Jalen Berger rushed for 87 yards and Collin Larsh had field goals of 28 and 29 yards forWiscons­in, which lost its second straight. Mertzwent 20 of 34 for 202 yards but also threw an intercepti­on and lost a fumble.

No. 24Iowa35, Illinois21:

Spencer Petris threw three touchdown passes and No. 24 Iowa scored 35 unanswered points after trailing by two touchdowns early to beat Illinois 35-21 on Saturday.

Petris was 18 of 28 for 220 yards for Iowa (5-2) and Tyler Goodson had 19 rushes for 92 yards.

Brandon Peters started the 8-for-8 for 101 yards and two touchdowns for Illinois (2-4), but went 2for-10 for 15 yards before being pulled for backup Isaiah Williams midway through the fourth quarter. Williams was 7 of 16 for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Iowa's comeback started with a 22-yard pass from Petras to Sam LaPorta to cut the Illini lead to 14-7. It was the sophomore's first career touchdown catch. Duncan Keith added two field goals to cut the Illinois lead to 14-13 at the half.

Nebraska 37, Purdue 27:

Adrian Martinez ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to help Nebraska to a 37-27 victory over Purdue on Saturday.

Martinez completed 23 of 30 passes for 242 yards and rushed for another 45 yards for the Cornhusker­s..

Both teams are 2-4 in the Big Ten-only schedule.

Nebraska took a 34-13 lead on Martinez's 1-yard touchdown run early in the second half. Purdue bounced back to narrow the deficit to 34-27 with two Jack Plummer touchdown passes.

However, Nebraska regained control with an eight play, 79-yard drive capped by Connor Culp's 32-yard field goal, his third, with 7:04 to play.

No. 3 Ohio State Michigan State 12:

The Buckeyes (5-0, 5-0 Big Ten, No. 4 CFP) were able to take the field after a coronaviru­s-related cancellati­on the previous weekend. They were without coach Ryan Day and a few other members of the staff. Ohio State also had a list of 23 unavailabl­e players, but none of that seemed to faze the Buckeyes.

PennState2­3, Rutgers 7:

Sean Clifford threw a 29yard touchdown and Penn State's defense set up three scores with stops or takeaways in a victory over Rutgers that gave the program its 900th win.

Penn State (2-5, 2-5 Big Ten) dominated both sides of the ball, outgained Rutgers 381-204 and held the Scarlet Knights to a seasonlowf­or points. The winwas the second straight for the Nittany Lions and their 14th in a row over the Scarlet Knights (2-5, 2-5).
