Dolton sees 3 homicides in past week after recording 11 for all of last year

In Dolton, a village that saw 11 homicides for all of 2022, three shooting deaths have been reported in the past week although police have not provided any additional informatio­n.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office also reported a homicide Jan. 14 in Burnham, while Homewood police said they are investigat­ing the shooting death of an 18-year-old high school football player.

In a shooting Jan. 14, a Northlake man, Jaime Vazquez Prado, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the 14800 block of Irving Avenue, Dolton, and the 44-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:37 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

On Jan. 15, Magee Sturkey, 22, was shot multiple times at a home in the 15300 block of Grant Street in Dolton where he lived, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:18 p.m., according to the office.

In a shooting Tuesday, Anthony L. Lofton, 38, of the 7400 block of South Wentworth Avenue in Chicago, died at the scene just before 11:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Sibley Boulevard of Dolton, according to the medical examiner.

Messages left with Dolton police Chief Robert Collins seeking additional informatio­n about the homicides were not returned.

Dolton had 11 homicides last year, according to the medical examiner’s office. It was the second highest homicide total among Chicago suburbs in 2022, behind the 15 recorded in Harvey, according to the office.

In Burnham, a Texas man was shot multiple times in the 2300 block of State Street, according to the medical examiner.

Maurice Packer, 41, of Plano, was pronounced dead at 1:13 a.m. Saturday at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the medical examiner’s office.

A message left with Burnham police seeking more informatio­n was not returned.

Homewood’s police Chief Denise McGrath said Friday police continue to investigat­e the Jan. 13 shooting death of an 18-year-old Aurora man.

Identified by the medical examiner’s office as Johnathan David Marshall Prince Brown, he was a member of the high school football team in Merrillvil­le, Indiana.

Homewood police said they responded at about 8:35 p.m. Jan. 13 to a report of shots fired in the 17500 block of Halsted Street and that Brown was taken to a hospital.

A second 18-year-old male from Merrillvil­le also was injured in the shooting. Police said he drove himself to a hospital Gary, where he was treated and released.

According to the medical examiner’s office, Brown died at 9:30 p.m. the night of the shooting at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
