Hundreds come out for Oak Lawn Monarch fest
More than 500 people came out for the Oak Lawn Park District's third annual Monarch Festival on Saturday at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th Street. Activities included live butterfly tagging, a bug zoo, caterpillar aquarium, butterfly arts and crafts for kids, an interactive puppet theatre, educational vendors, live music and a movie. The free festival was sponsored by Mary Beth Swibes, and raised awareness about the issues that Monarch butterflies face today, educating participants on how they can assist in the preservation of this species, organizers said.
