Cupid Candies remains open in Orland Park
Cupid Candies shut its doors in Oak Lawn on Sunday, ending nearly seven decades of sweet service, but the Cupid Candies store in Orland Park remains open.
The store at 4709 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn closed Sunday, just a few months after owner John Stefanos sold the business in June to Stephanie Hart, owner of Brown Sugar Bakery.
As part of the deal, Cupid favorites such as itsTurks and fudgewould continue to be produced and sold at the Oak Lawn and Orland Park stores.
Stefanos decided to close the Oak Lawn location but will keep the Orland store open at 9420W. 143rd St. It has been there since 1973.
Cupid sweets will also be available online.
SelectMedical to run physical therapy centers
Chicago’ s Rush University Medical Center and post-acute care provider Select Medical last week announced a joint venture to operate outpatient facilities in the Chicago area, as well as a new 84-bed rehabilitation hospital on the academic medical center’sNearWest Side campus.
The deal involves 63 physical therapy centers in the Chicago and Northwest Indiana region, and construction of Rush Specialty Hospital, which will have 30 critical illness recovery beds and 54 inpatient rehabilitation beds when the hospital opens in 2022.
Astatement released byMechanicsburg, Pa.-based SelectMedical said the company will be “majority owner and managing partner across three post-acute care lines.” Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The deal includes NovaCare Rehabilitation, Select Physical Therapy and Michiana Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy locations. All 63 will be rebranded as Rush Physical Therapy.
NovaCare operates two centers in Oak Lawn and one in Tinley Park and Palos Hills. Select Medical centers are in Tinley Park, Joliet and Chicago’s Southwest Side.
Southland Convention and Visitors Bureaumoves
The Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau has moved from its longtime home in Lansing to new digs in Olympia Fields.
The bureau represents 62 south and southwest suburbs and had been located at 2304 173rd St. in Lansing for 23 years. It moved recently to 19900 Governors Drive, Suite 200 in Olympia Fields.
The bureau also has installed a kiosk at the Lincoln Oasis across Interstate 80 in SouthHolland.

Shrimp house to host first responder benefit
Original Island Shrimp House in Palos Park is hosting a crawfish and shrimp boil benefit Friday and Saturday at 12902 S. LaGrange Road in Palos Park.
Tickets are $40 per person or two for $75. There will be multiple seatings both days.
The all-you-can-eat event features boiled shrimp and crawfish and trimmings such as corn, potatoes and sausage.

WALLET STOLEN: A woman told police someone stole her wallet while she was at LingerMartini Bar, 4142W. 167th Street, on Sept.18. The thief left the bar and immediately used her bank card to make two $120 purchases at aWalgreens and one $400 car rental atHertz.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: A pizza delivery driver told police awomanstole a pizza and threatened to shoot him if he chased her after she arranged to have the pizza delivered to the Starbucks parking lot, 15852 S. CiceroAve., on Sept. 25. The victim told police the pizza cost $29 and the suspect only gave him $12. Whenthe victim attempted to take back possession of the pizza, he said thewomangrabbed thepizza, began running and said “don’t chase me, I have a gun and I’ll shoot you” before lifting up her shirt to reveal a small, black handgun. The suspect is described as a black woman about 55 with a very heavy build and black hair and wearing baggy black pants and a black jacket.
DOMESTIC BATTERY: Justin Adams, 38, of the 5300 block of Christopher, Oak Forest, was arrested and accused of domestic battery and unlawful interference with the reporting of domestic violence after a Sept. 26 incident in the 5300 block of Christopher, police said.
THEFT ARREST: Kevin Hall, 51, of the 15300 block ofKnox, Oak Forest, was arrested and accused of theft after stealing a boy’s mountain bike from outside of Food 4 Less, 5556 W. 159th St., on Sept. 27, police said. Hall was also arrested and accused of possession of drug paraphernalia after a glass pipe fell out of his pocketwhenhewas exiting the patrol car.

PHONY I.D.: Jamol Binion, 24, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of possession of a fraudulent driver’s license after being questioned by police Aug. 13 in the 14300 block of LaGrange Road, police said. Allen Jones Jr., 25, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license, making an improper turn and failure to wear a seat belt, police said.
RETAIL THEFT: OmarHasan, 48, of the 14500 block of Hawthorne Court, Homer Glen, was arrested and accused of retail theft after stealing $265 worth of merchandise from J.C. Penney’s inOrland SquareMallonSept. 2, police said.
POT ARREST: Douglas Livingston, 22, of the 11700 block of South Parnell, Chicago, was arrested and accused of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and resisting a peace officer after police found 59 grams of pot, approximately $5,000 in cash, scales and plastic baggies during a Sept. 5 stop in the 8900 block of 151st Street, police said. Dorian Davis, 21, of the 10100 block of Prairie Avenue, Chicago, was also accused of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, according to a police report.
HIT AND RUN: Aleksander Boldyrew, 20, of the 6600 block of 88th Place, Oak Lawn, was arrested and accused of leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no insurance, failure to give notice of an accident and driving on the wrong side of the road after crashing into a roundabout in the 8700 block of 142nd Place on Sept. 6, police said.

RESISTING POLICE: Mohammad Khalil, 23, of Oak Lawn, was arrested and accused of obstructing justice, resisting police and littering Sept. 17 after police questionedhim for illegally parking in a handicapped parking space in the 10400 block ofHarlem Avenue, police said. Khali allegedly threw his citation at police, refused to give them his I.D. and fought with them during his arrest, police said.

Police arrived on scene but the men fled in a maroon Dodge Charger that had been reported stolen out of Markham.Two cars in the lot sustained smashed windows and at least one set of keyswas stolen.

Ablan, 31, undisclosed block of Avon Avenue, Oak Lawn, was arrested and accused of illegally possessing a controlled substance, illegally transporting adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle and driving on a suspended license Sept. 13 at 87th Street and Ridgeland Avenue after he was found to have five black market tranquilizer pills and more than seven grams of improperly contained marijuana, police said. NARCOTICS: Mouyad K. Zamat, 23, undisclosed block of Oak Park Avenue, Chicago Ridge, was arrested and accused of illegally possessing up to 30 grams of cannabis during a 1:36 a.m. Sept. 13 patrol check at Rocket Park after he was found to be putting an undisclosed amount of marijuana into a pipe, police said. On Sept. 16 Zamat was taken into custody and accused of disorderly conduct, trespassing and criminally damaging property at a motel in the 9000 block of CiceroAvenue after breaking furniture in a room and then threatening staff members who had taken refuge in that room, police said.
