St. Louis-basedBandana’s BBQ has been remodeling the former Dugout and Applebee’s building at 16200 S. HarlemAve. in Tinley Park.

New signage has been erected at the restaurant, which features Southernstyle barbecue seasoned with a dry rub and cooked in a hardwood smoker. Its tag line is “Smell that smoke.”

No grand opening date has been announced, but the chain saysonitswebsite that the Tinley location is “coming soon.”

“This is the first entry by this 29-unit chain into metro Chicago,” Rick Scardino, of Lee&Associates, said in a news release earlier this year. “A collaboration of efforts by the village of Tinley Park and the seller will create a nice launchpad for possible future locations in metro Chicago.”

Tinley Park trustees last December recommended the building for a Cook County Class 7A reclassification that would lower its tax assessment from 25% to 10% for 10 years.

U.S. Bank, the 10th-largest in the Chicago area by deposits and the fifth-largest in the country, said lastweek it would be permanently closing 9 % of its full-service branches in the six-county metropolitan area, which numbered 135 as of June 30.

Temporary closures due

to COVID-19 now being made permanent include the in-store branch at the Mokena Meijer supermarket atWolfRoadandU.S. 30; 8811 W. 159th St. in Orland Hills; Joliet Junior College, 1215 Houbolt Road; Triton College in River Grove; Braidwood; Glen Ellyn; Forest Park; and Lisle.

Three more that have been open will be closed at the endof the year, including the branch at 19950 Governors Highway in Olympia Fields, Wood Dale, and one of its four branches in Oak Park, 6011NorthAve.

Cincinnati- based Fifth Third Bank, in significantly reducing locations.

Since early October the four banks have announced plans to close a combined 45 or more locations.

Masks andMore opens 3rd location

Tinley Park-based Masks andMore has opened a third outlet store.

The pop-up division of internet retailer PulseTV.com started with a store inOrlandPark, addeda second store last month in Tinley Park and last week opened its third store at 20815 S. LaGrange Road in the Frankfort Town Center. TheFrankfort location is the largest space yet for the outlet stores.

“We have been blown away by how the communities in both Orland Park and Tinley Park responded to our first two locations,” Coowner Anisa Ali said. ” … (We) hope our reception will mirror the way our other stores have been received.”

The Frankfort location is next door to the Butera grocery store and has more than 2400 square feet of space. In addition to featuring masks, sanitizer, disinfectant and personal protective equipment, it will also have “As Seen On TV” products.

Sharif Ali, director of business development for parent company PulseTV, said, “Opening three stores in 14 weeks has been challenging but also lots of fun. All the people in our PulseTV corporate office in Tinley Park are also taking turns working shifts at the stores. We have been an online retailer for twenty years so meeting people face to face is a new experience for all of us.”

Sharif Aliandhis brothers went to Lincoln-Way East High School, less than one block away from the new location, and both Anisa and her brother and business partner live in Frankfort, and their third partner and cousin Tom Zegar lives in Orland Park.

“The one thing we all learned during this pandemic was that there were shortages of a lot of things needed to combat COVID-19,” Anisa Ali said. “We started manufacturing our own brand of sanitizer with a local Tinley Park industrial cleaning company which is now sold all over the country. We also sourced products from all over the world and our Tinley Park warehouse keeps each location stocked twice perweek. We have sufficient supplies to weather a long haul for this virus.”
