A new Dollar Tree discount store is coming to Harlem Crossing in unincorporated Frankfort Square at 19800 S. Harlem Ave.

The retailer will be the second new business to open in the shopping center in recent months. The retail strip had languished for a long time with a dry cleaners and ethnic grocery as its only tenants.

Dimitri’s Best Food opened a few weeks ago in the former Debo’s Dogs storefront on the southern corner of the building and now Dollar Tree is taking up more of the formerly vacant space.

No date has been announced for the store’s opening, but it should be in the first quarter of 2021.

The shopping center is kitty-corner from a massive new Amazon distribution center going up in Matteson.

Frankfort to sell downtown site to BoKAY Flowers

Frankfort village officials have agreed to sell a downtown site at 1 N. White St. to BoKAY Flowers for $325,000.

The sale agreement was approved at the village’s Dec. 21 board meeting. The village had advertised the site for sale for $300,000 in October. A competing offer of $300,000 was received from Great Space.

The site is just north of the Trolley Barn in downtown Frankfort. It was the longtime home of My Sisters and Me Boutique, which closed in September after 20 years.

In a news release, village officials said board members considered how each proposal would fit into the overall charm and character of the commercial core of downtown Frankfort. It was the consensus of the Economic Development Committee to forward a recommendation accept the offer from BoKAY Flowers.

“BoKAY Flowers plans to significantly expand their home décor items within their floral design business,’ Mayor Jim Holland said in the release. “They intend to become a very active addition to Frankfort’s downtown shopping experience.

“We thank the Morgan family, the owners of BoKAY, for their investment in our community, and we thank the Cartolano family for also making a proposal to purchase the property. Both families are local residents. Both families have invested significantly in our downtown, and we thank both of them for their continued interest in making Frankfort the best it can be.”

BoKAY Flowers is located at 130 W. Kansas St. Cindy Morgan is the lead designer.
