A man was killed and two suspects were taken into custody after a chase following a fatal shooting Wednesday afternoon outside an Illinois secretary of state’s driver facility in Bridgeview, authorities said.

The shooting, which took place about 1:35 p.m. outside the office, 7368 W. 87th St., in the southwest suburb, was possibly sparked over a disagreement in rap music, according to police spokesman Ray Hanania.

A male wounded in the shooting was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, initially in critical condition, according to a news release. He later was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Hanania.

Police identified the man as Jawaun Davis, 21. He had multiple gunshot wounds, Hanania said.

Police chased a vehicle the suspected shooter fled in, and it

appeared he “had an accomplice,” according to Hanania.

As of about 2:50 p.m., two suspects had been taken into custody near 99th Street and Roberts Road after they abandoned their vehicle following a foot chase, he said.

Police “believe this was an intentionally planned shooting targeting the victim,” Hanania said in an email.

The shooting happened outside the building in a parking lot. A customer was waiting in line at the busy driver facility when one of the suspects, who was believed to also be a customer, shot the person, said Dave Druker, a spokesman for the Illinois secretary of state’s office and police.

Staff and all the other customers who were inside were kept there for the time being, he said.

“The place is under control now,” Druker said, adding that no employees were involved in the attack.

Just blocks away from the scene of the arrest, Nick Radice, manager at Palos Oil & Lube, said he was inside his shop with several customers when he looked outside and saw a car with two doors open, then someone jumping the fence behind his shop. A handful of police officers followed.

Officers from surrounding cities, including Summit and Palos Heights, also pulled up, Radice said.

“It was pretty nuts, because everyone just went running,” he said. Staff and customers in the store paused for a few moments to watch, he said. Then business went on as usual.

Hanania said there is no risk to the public: “It is a tragedy, but it is not a mass shooting similar to the unfortunate tragedies we have seen over the past few months across the country.”
