Providence Catholic musicians shine at state competition
Providence Catholic music students earned 66 Superior awards (1st place medals) and four Excellent awards (2nd place medals) in addition to three performances selected as Best of Day at the IHSA Solo & Ensemble Competition.

Marist’s Arundel earns Butler University award
Marist senior Brooke Arundel recently was awarded the Butler University Chicago Partnership Award, a four-year, full-tuition scholarship.
The Oak Lawn resident has been a part of the HFS Chicago Scholars program during her high school years. She also has been deeply involved in community activities, especially with floChicago, a youth development organization. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has served as the Marist softball team manager since freshman year.
Arundel credits her family for teaching her to value education.
“[Education] is my opportunity for more,” she said. “While in college, I get the chance to be independent, learn about the field I am passionate about, and experience a whole new environment. None of those things would be possible without my academic experiences.”
She plans on majoring in accounting.
OLCHS’ Chae Rin West advances in PTA contest
Oak Lawn Community High School student Chae Rin West advanced to the national level of the PTSA Reflections Contest for her photography submission “Self Aware.”
She was one of just 26 entries to advance to the national competition.
Hailey Rabideaux received honorable mention for her film production “Talk to Me Animatic” while other participants in the contest from Oak Lawn included
Veronika Stelter for her literature and Emily Caliendo, Jocelyn Damian, Maggie Conrad and Ella Pehler for their photography submissions.
Local students help Bradley University win national business award
Worth’s Krystyna Nedza and Richton Park’s Jenice Brown were among the students from Bradley University’s Foster College of Business that won third place in the Undergraduate Comprehensive category at the 45th Annual Small Business Institute National Conference.

Tinley Park’s Tolan named academic all-Big Ten
Tinley Park’s Carina Tolan, a gymnast on the University of Iowa’s women’s gymnastics team, was named to the 2020-21 winter academic all-Big Ten team.
The Providence Catholic graduate is a junior who is majoring in health and human physiology.
