Country Club Hills police were still searching for answers Thursday after a shooting Tuesday night shooting took the lives of two brothers inside their home.

Police responded at about 7:30 p.m. to the 19000 block of Farm Crest Terrace following a report of a home invasion, according to a news release. Officers found two men with gunshot wounds inside the house.

Clarence Whalum, 22, and Kimani Whalum, 20, who police said were brothers, were taken to hospitals and later pronounced dead.

Traci Rogers, the mother of the two victims, told multiple media outlets that other family members were home at the time and witnessed the shootings. Country Club Hills police Chief Galvin confirmed other people were present.

“It was so senseless; I just don’t understand,” Rogers told ABC7 Chicago. “Why would you come and take my kids’ life? For what? What did they do to you?”

Both men died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which ruled both deaths a homicide. Kimani Whalum was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m. Tuesday at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields, and Clarence Whalum was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a medical examiner’s spokesperson.

Galvin said the city is working with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the investigation is ongoing.

“The incident is isolated and the community is not in danger,” Galvin said.

The chief said information regarding anybody involved was limited, and did not provide any description of any person or vehicle thought to be involved. As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, he said nobody was in custody related to the shootings.

Investigators ask anyone who might have information regarding the shootings to call Country Club Hills police at 708-798-3191 or provide information anonymously through the tip line at 708-206-2899.
