Mayfield playing with injury to left shoulder

Browns quarterbac­k Baker Mayfield has a partially torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder that doesn’t require surgery at this time, The AP reported Thursday.

Mayfield, who had his shoulder pop out while he attempted to make a tackle last month against the Texans, will continue to play as long as the injury doesn’t worsen.

It’s possible Mayfield can make it through the season and then undergo a procedure to fix the tear.

Former All-Pro RB Christian McCaffrey said he “definitely’’ has a chance to play in the Panthers’ game against the Eagles on Sunday after missing last weekend’s loss to the Cowboys with a hamstring injury . ... WR Calvin Ridley will not travel to London for the Falcons’ game against the Jets because of an undisclose­d personal matter. ... The Packers signed LB Jaylon Smith, who was released by the Cowboys on Tuesday. ESPN reported the deal is for one year.

College football: Oregon starting RB CJ Verdell and S Bennett Williams will miss the rest of the season with leg injuries. ... Gordon Hudson, an All-American tight end for BYU and a College Football Hall of Famer, died late last month, the school announced. He was 59. No cause of death was given. Hudson still holds the NCAA record for most yards gained in a game by a tight end when he 259 against Utah on Nov. 21, 1981.

Soccer: U.S. Magistrate Judge Daniel Albregts sided with Cristiano Ronaldo’s lawyers against a woman who sued for more than the $375,000 in hush money she received in 2010 after saying he raped her in Las Vegas. In a scathing recommenda­tion to the judge hearing the case, Albregts blamed Kathryn Mayorga’s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, for basing the case on leaked and stolen documents that Albregts said were privileged communicat­ions between the Portugal internatio­nal and his lawyers.
