Congratulations to the

Chicago Sky on their national championship. They deserve every accolade. I hope the city of Chicago celebrates their championship with parades and feats of glory as has been done in the past for the men. Congratulations ladies. You are the best.

The head of

the Chicago Police Union would have you believe that the controversy is about the mayor when it is about the police officers’ refusal to live up to their oath to protect the citizens of Chicago. Every contact they have with a resident or visitor to the city puts that person in additional danger from the officer. They are also putting the lives of their fellow officers

in jeopardy. Without a valid medical or religious excuse, they should be vaccinated as should all public employees. I got mine, time for you to do the right thing.

Al, Tinley Park

Just watched a TV commercial about Rapunzel. I did not know she was an African American? I did not think the Brothers Grimm envisioned her that way back in 1812. That is the way we now change history to reflect a nicer and happy America.

A writer in

Sunday’s Speak Out section espoused that the company and the people responsible for the oil spills in our lakes and oceans be hung from the nearest pole or tree.

Regardless of the cause of a spill, whether due to negligence or accident, the writers extreme intolerance is symptomatic of the problem plaguing our country today.

Jim, Orland Park

To Joe from

Oak Lawn regarding Columbus Day. Many cities and places in the country have decided to recognize that Columbus Day should be in fact remembered as Indigenous Peoples Day. It is

time the Native American people should get a day of recognition after long being ignored and their points of view disregarded. I, for one do not and never have celebrated Columbus Day. Columbus in fact was a horrible man and did not discover the Americas. To celebrate Columbus is to continue opening wounds of mass genocide, slavery, rape, torture and savage conquest of native Indigenous people.
