Popcorn shop opens in Tinley; fire shutters Orland plaza

Popus Gourmet Popcorn opened its second store last week across the street from the Oak Park Metra Station.

Tracy Smith and Walter Dean own the store at 6741 South St., which held its ribbon cutting ceremony May 11.

Dean started the company in 2017 at 2004 W. Jefferson Street in Joliet. Last year, he partnered with Smith to open the Tinley Park location with hopes to begin franchisin­g the business.

Popus produces popcorn daily in small batches in a variety of flavors including caramel, cheese, jalapeño and sour cream and onion.

The shop caters to a range of people, from those looking for a snack to those planning a party or a wedding.

The Tinley location is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Weil Foot & Ankle relocates in Tinley Park

The Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting last week for Weil Foot & Ankle celebratin­g their relocation in Tinley Park. Their old office was on Oak Park Avenue.

The ceremony was held May 12 at 18425 West Creek Drive, Suite C.

Weil is a full-service podiatry clinic providing foot care for any foot and ankle condition.

Fire closes Seville Plaza businesses in Orland Park

A fire Sunday in the Seville Plaza at 8600 W. 159th St. in Orland Park destroyed the Hookah to Go Lounge and badly damaged the neighborin­g Konquer Dance Company.

Orland Fire Protection District firefighte­rs said the fire started about 10:30 a.m. May 15 inside Hookah to Go and was contained to the east end of the shopping center. No one was injured in the fire.

An online fundraisin­g effort called Konquer Dance Recovery Fund has been started to help the mother and daughter owners rebuild the dance studio, which occupied four suites at the shopping center. The fund had raised $6,120 toward a $10,000 goal as of Tuesday.

Konquer has its fourth annual Dance Showcase scheduled for June 11-12 at Stagg High School in Palos Hills.

SSC to host Hiring & Resource Fair

South Suburban College will host the Cook County Career Connector Hiring & Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24 in the Kindig Performing Arts Center, 15800 S. State St., South Holland.

This event marks the kickoff of the Cook County Career Connector program sponsored by Cook County and The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnershi­p with support from Employment & Employer Services and the South Suburban American Job Center.

The Cook County Career Connector promotes a more inclusive and equitable economy as Cook County emerges from the pandemic by connecting county residents to quality jobs and connecting County employers to a skilled and diverse talent pool.

More than 20 ready-to-hire employers will be on hand in fields that include Manufactur­ing, Healthcare, Transporta­tion, Distributi­on and Logistics and other sectors. Employers include National Tube Supply, Symphony Care Network, Walgreens, Illinois Tollway Call Center, Amazon, PACE Suburban Bus and more who will offer competitiv­e wages and benefits.
