Bremen students rise to reading challenge

Almost a dozen students from Bremen District 228 completed the requiremen­ts for the Illinois Read for a Lifetime Challenge and received a certificat­e from the state of Illinois.

The dedicated readers from the area who met this challenge head-on, included Bremen’s Guadalupe Gomez and Brianna McCorkle, Tinley Park’s Gabriella Sanchez and Ayah Roussi and Oak Forest’s Matthew Angone, Kelly Croarkin, Simranpree­t Kaur, Rona Mala, Tyler Isaiah Odems, Hetvi Soni and Haley Wronowski.

Lemont’s Barndollar, Bingelyte compete at IDEA state competitio­n

Two Lemont High School students — senior Roberta Bingelyte and junior Erin Barndollar — competed at the 2022 Illinois Design Educators Associatio­n State Competitio­n in April. Each made their state finals debuts by participat­ing in the Architectu­ral Board category.

Barndollar and Bingelyte advanced to state finals competitio­n after sweeping the top two spots in regional competitio­n. Barndollar placed first in the Architectu­ral Board division, while Bingelyte finished as the runner-up.

Lemont qualified two additional entries for state finals competitio­n, but they were unable to attend the event. Seniors Peter Borzecki, Adam Ptaszek and Grahm Schuth won the Engineerin­g Design category, while seniors Marek Biedrzycki, Lukasz Otreba and Adam Straczek combined for a runner-up finish in Architectu­ral Design.

Oak Lawn’s Stillman earns MVC scholar-athlete honor

Oak Lawn’s John Stillman, a Brother Rice alum, garnered honorable mention Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) scholar-athlete recognitio­n this season.

Stillman appeared in all but one tournament in 2021-22, playing a career-high 26 rounds. He ranked fourth on the team with a 79.85 stroke average, which included a 77.63 over his final eight rounds of

the season. He matched the low round of his career with a 72 in the final round of the Butler Spring Invitation­al.

A political science major with a perfect 4.00 cumulative gradepoint average, Stillman fired 13 rounds in the 70s in 2021-22 and had four rounds of 75 or better. He has landed on the MVC Honor Roll twice.

New Lenox student serves in Western African nation of Togo

Anna Dubois, a resident of New Lenox and graduating senior from Cedarville University, is spending the first 26 days after graduation serving in the West African nation of Togo.

Along with a small team of fellow seniors and others, Dubois is serving in a health care facility run by the Associatio­n of Baptists for World Evangelism until June 3.

University of Iowa Department of Accounting awards

A pair of area students enrolled

in the Henry B. Tipple College of Business at the University of Iowa received Byron R. Ross Awards for Teaching Excellence.

Homer Glen’s Kevin Horan received the Department of Accounting Faculty Scholar award and Hickory Hills’ Anthony Mullan was given the Department of Accounting Outstandin­g Junior Award.
