Lightning rally, trim East final deficit to 2-1

Ondrej Palat scored with 42 seconds left and the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning beat the Rangers 3-2 on Sunday in Tampa, Florida, to cut their deficit in the Eastern Conference final to 2-1.

Palat’s goal capped a comeback that began after Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider scored power-play goals in a span of just over two minutes in the second period to put the Rangers up 2-0.

The Lightning rallied with Nikita Kucherov scoring on the power play in the second period and Steven Stamkos tying it in the third.

Andrei Vasilevski­y made 28 saves for the Lightning. „ Center Nazem Kadri will miss at least the rest of the West final after suffering an injury on an illegal hit by Evander Kane during the Avalanche’s 4-2 road win against the Oilers on Saturday. Kadri has six goals and eight assists in 13-plus games this postseason. The NHL suspended Kane for Game 4. The Avs lead the series 3-0 . ... Bruins center Patrice Bergeron, 36, broke an NHL record by capturing the Selke Trophy for the fifth time in his career as the league’s best defensive forward.

Auto racing: Team Penske driver Will Power of Australia won the final Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Isle to reclaim the IndyCar points lead. The race will return to its original downtown street course in 2023.

Boxing: American Devin Haney retained his WBC lightweigh­t title and added three more from the weight class after a unanimous points decision over Australian George Kambosos on Saturday in Melbourne. The 23-yearold American remained unbeaten with a record of 28-0, including 15 KO’s.

Soccer: Lionel Messi scored five goals for Argentina for the first time in a 5-0 rout of Estonia in a friendly Sunday in Spain. Messi, 34, also scored five goals with Barcelona in a 7-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2011-12 Champions League.
