MPA students stand out during Model UN conference
Morgan Park Academy students stood out at the nation’s largest high school Model UN conference on Nov. 5, capturing five individual awards among more than 1,000 participants at Saint Ignatius College Prep.
Model UN is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, current events, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy. Students take on roles as diplomats and participate in a simulated session of an intergovernmental organization
Junior Navin Nielsen and seniors Kaleb Bandele, Andrew Cabrera and Sean Sutton were selected for Outstanding Delegate recognition, while senior Josh Kirksy received honorable mention.
MPA also received strong performances from seniors Olivia Fitch and Arnav Paluri; sophomores Khalilah Adkins and Walter Lopez; and freshmen Varun Paluri and Grant Ring.
Lockport’s Kozak part of title win
The Lewis University women’s cross country team recently won the
Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship title at Principia College Cross Country Course.
The Flyers had seven runners place in the top 16 and earn all GLVC Honors, including Lockport’s Anna Kozak who led the team by taking third place at 22:26.
It was the first time the Flyers won the conference title in 25 years.
Tinley Park’s Hernandez joins business leaders program
Tinley Park’s Gail Hernandez, an actuarial science major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is among 31 first-year students in the second cohort of the College of Business’ Inclusive Business Leaders Program this fall.
The program strives to make business more inclusive by developing leaders focused on inclusion. Hernandez receives a $2,000 scholarship in her first year and customized learning opportunities.
Lewis University to perform ‘A Christmas Carol’
“A Christmas Carol,” adapted for the stage by
Joe Landry, will have performances Dec. 1-4 at Lewis University’s Philip Lynch Theatre. The cast features Palos Park’s Lukas Roy and Lockport’s Courtney Mason is the understudy/swing.
The production is a radio play adaptation of Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol.” The holiday classic will come to life as a live 1940s radio broadcast, complete with vintage commercials and the magic of live sound effects and musical underscoring.
