Sheep’s Food District in Orland Hills may have something for everyone under one roof.

Sheep’s is affiliated with the White Sheep, a breakfast and lunch restaurant at 14435 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park.

But while The White Sheep is open only for breakfast and lunch and closes daily at 3 p.m., Sheep’s Food District opens later, stays open late and caters to a different kind of crowd.

Sheep’s Food District is an umbrella that provides space for a variety of food businesses and a bar at 8888 W. 159th St. in Orland Hills.

“It’s like a small plates concept,” said manager Nicole Paxton.

Food-wise there’s The Little White Sheep, which serves the same breakfast, brunch, pastries and coffee as its big sister.

The Ring of Fire offers handtossed artisan pizzas cooked over awood-fireoven.

Joe Trucker has street food. “Picture half a food truck inside a building,” said Paxton.

Adult drinks are provided by the District Bar.

Starting with its grand opening this Friday, New Lenox’s Bourbons Smokehouse will be added to the mix with slow-smoked barbecue just in time for Sheep’s Kringle Market on Friday and Saturday.

Bourbons opened this year at 280 E. Lincoln Highway in New Lenox and this will be its second location.

Paxton said the Sheep’s Food

District allows diners to partake of any of the vendors at the same time.

“You have one server and you get one bill,” said Paxton.

Sheep’s offers free Wi-Fi and there’s a room with video gaming machines.

The District Bar has longer hours than the restaurants. During the week, the bar opens at 2 p.m. and stays open until 1 a.m. On Friday and Saturday, it stays open to 2 a.m. The bar opens at 11 a.m. on weekends.

The restaurants are open from 4-10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

New Starbucks opens in Tinley Park

A new Starbucks is now open at 17126 S. Harlem Ave. in Tinley Park. It’s in a small retail strip with a Midwest Express Clinic and another storefront.

The new location has a drivethru and is open daily from 5:30 a.m.to9p.m.

Interestingly, there’s another Starbucks inside the Jewel-Osco store across the street at 17117 S. Harlem Ave. That location is open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Reichman Jewelers to close Oak Lawn store

A growing number of robberies has convinced the owners of Reichman Jewelers to close their store in Oak Lawn in January.

Co-owner Odysseus “Odyss” Tsarouhis was shot twice in the chest during a robbery in July.

Tsarouhis and his partner Paul Stein have owned the business since 1980, but its roots date to 1908.

The store had been located for years at 4949 S. Ashland Ave. in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood before it was moved to 4439 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn in 1984.

“We’ve been partners since 1980,” said Stein, noting that they took over from his father, Al Stein, who had been with the business since 1935. The patriarch’s photo still has pride of place in the store, hanging on the wall above the main counter.

Reichman, which has been serving generations of loyal customers, is not closing completely. But in January, the men plan to begin working out of a new, smaller location farther west on 95th Street, which will only be open by appointment.

Cook County OKs $5.5 million for car charging stations

Electric cars are here to stay, so the Cook County Board has earmarked $5.5 million to install up to 75 charging stations in underserved communities on the south and west suburbs.

The goal of this four-year initiative

is to install up to 75 dual port public EV charging stations. Cook County will cover the cost of the EV station hardware, construction, installation as well as networking and warranty fees for the first five years.

The county is seeking input from municipal leaders, residents, business owners and community organizations to find the most suitable locations for the public charging stations such as a city hall, public

library, community center, house of worship, housing complex, shopping complex or any other location that would offer convenient access to charging. Station locations within disinvested communities will be prioritized.

Information is at www.cookcountyil.gov/EVcharging.
