In “Far From Home,” Henry Louis Gates Jr. maps the family trees of pop icon Cyndi Lauper and actors Jamie Chung and Danny Trejo, exploring records in Italy, Korea and Mexico to uncover ancestors whose stories were lost when their families immigrated to America.

American Auto Season Premiere

The workplace comedy from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer returns for Season Two. Set at an auto company in Detroit, the series is led by Ana Gasteyer, Harriet Dyer and Jon Barinholtz.

Marlee Matlin makes her directoria­l debut in the new episode “Ava’s Story,” involving a deaf surrogate (Stephanie Nogueras) who is forced to take protective action. Megan Boone and Aaron Ashmore also star.

American Masters: ‘Roberta Flack’ PBS, 8 p.m.

This film traces music icon Robert Flack’s journey from her start in a piano lounge to her rise to stardom thanks to iconic performanc­es of classics like “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and “Killing Me Softly.” Flack’s virtuosity was inseparabl­e from her commitment to civil rights, and her story is detailed here in her own words, enhanced by access to her archives as well as interviews with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Peabo Bryson and more.

That Dirty Black Bag New Series

AMC, 10 p.m. ■

Remember, a head weighs less than a body when it comes to hauling around that dirty black bag. AMC’s gritty spaghetti Western tells a story over eight long days following the encounter and clash between two men: McCoy (Dominic Cooper), an apparently incorrupti­ble sheriff with a dark past, and Red Bill (Douglas Booth), a dirty, taciturn bounty killer trapped in a desire for vengeance that cannot be fulfilled.
