FLOWOOD – Today and every year on March 18, Atmos Energy is proud to observe Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day.

First established in 2015, this national day of recognition is a time when communities throughout Mississippi are encouraged to show appreciation to the utility workers who provide one of our most valuable resources – efficient natural gas service.

“Our employees perform a critical role in delivering safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers during all hours and in tough weather conditions,” said Mathew Davidson, Mississippi division president. “The job comes with a lot of sacrifice, often without any recognition. I, like many of our customers, am truly thankful for their commitment to safely providing first-class customer service.”

In the utility business, workdays may not be 9 to 5. There are callouts, customer inquiries, emergencies, inclement weather, and other events that require utility workers to put in extra time, taking them away from their own family and friends. Atmos Energy employees strive to Make a Difference and Be At Their Best by demonstrating hard work, dedication, attention to detail, and a desire to provide excellent customer service.

All three Mississippi Public Service Commissioners also recognize the significant contributions our natural gas utility workers make:

“It's important to recognize and thank this particular group of utility workers because working with natural gas lines is a highly dangerous job,” Chairman of the Mississippi Public Service Commission Dane Maxwell said. “On- the- job safety is a top priority for our natural gas companies and I commend the work they do to keep the workers safe every day.”

“Our natural gas utility workers keep natural gas flowing around the clock despite challenging conditions, as they play a vital role in modernizing natural gas delivery systems for our growing communities,” Cen

tral District Public Service Commissioner Brent Bailey said. “I appreciate all of our natural gas utility workers and I am proud to recognize those professionals who remain committed to bringing safe, reliable natural gas to homes and businesses throughout the state.”

“I'm grateful for the work Atmos does across our state to ensure Mississippians have access to safe and reliable natural gas service,” Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley said. “Utility workers are the unsung heroes during times of need and I am proud to join Atmos in celebrating Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day.”

All of this hard work is underscored by Atmos Energy's vision to be the safest provider of natural gas services.

“Atmos Energy, the largest gas utility operating in Mississippi, is a company driven by safety that is reflected in our investments: in our communities, in modernization, and in our employees,” said Bobby Morgan, Mississippi division vice president of public affairs. “In fiscal year 2022, we invested $103 million in Mississippi, making our safe system even safer. Most importantly Atmos Energy employees have never forgotten that we live in the communities we serve. We are proud to have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to energy assistance agencies aimed at helping low-income Mississippians pay their gas bills and to nonprofits that fight to eradicate food insecurity among children. Making a difference in the community is truly a part of the DNA of an Atmos Energy employee and of gas utility workers. Saying ‘thank you' on March 18th to a gas utility worker is a small way of expressing appreciation to men and women who work tirelessly day in and day out, serving all of us.”
