Rev. Jeanette C. ( nee Dixon) “Granny” Alston, 78, surrendere­d to the will of the Lord at her home surrounded by her family on November 12, 2012.

She was born in Java, Va. to the late William Henry Dixon and Flossie Stephen Dixon. Granny, as she was so affectiona­tely called, was a graduate of South Side High School in Blairs, Va. She was also a graduate of a business school in Nashville, Tenn. and The Manna Bible Institute.

Granny was retired from The Commonweal­th of Pennsylvan­ia where she worked as a social worker. She also worked as a secretary at Cheyney University and was a Foster Parent.

Rev. Alston was an associate minister at Community Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Manna Bible Institute teacher, sang on the choir, member of the Pastor’s Aid Ministry and drove the church van. In her community, she was a member of The Chatham Estates Civic Associatio­n.

Granny enjoyed sewing, reading, especially her Bible, cooking, watching football, basketball, baseball and doing word puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was also pre- deceased by her siblings Ethel Thomas, Catherine Dallam, Mae Della Motley, William Henry Dixon Jr., John Edward Dixon, Jarious Dixon, and Curtis Dixon.

Survivors: Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her children - Dorothy Williams, Doris Dixon, Claretta Kirkland, Keith Alston, Craig Alston, Terrence Alston, Tammy Pearsall, Charles Alston, Elsie Walker, Lester Anderson, Camilla Mosley, Lorenzo Alston, Angela McCormick and Goldie Brown; siblings Jerry Dixon, Dorothy Alston ( Charles Mason) and Clara Crawford; 38 grandchild­ren; 64 great- grandchild­ren; many great- greatgrand­children; a host of other relatives and friends.

Service: Saturday November 17. 2012 10 a. m. at Community Baptist Church, 325 W. 7th St., Chester. Viewing: 8- 10 a. m. at the church. No viewing after the eulogy. Interment: Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood. Arr: Earl L. Foster Funeral Home Online Condolence­s at Earlfoster­funeralhom­e. com
