MARPLE » Officials from Delaware County Community College and Penn State University signed an agreement that will help make college more affordable for students by enabling qualified graduates of Delaware County Community College to seamlessly transfer to Penn State University.

The agreement applies to the following majors within Penn State’s “University College” academic unit: Bachelor of Science in Biology; Bachelor of Science in Business; Bachelor of Arts, or Science, in Psychology. All of these majors are offered at Penn State’s Brandywine Campus, conveniently located near Delaware County Community College’s Marple Campus. Penn State’s University College includes the Brandywine and 13 other Penn State campuses.

“This forward-thinking agreement provides an excellent opportunity for our graduates to pursue a fouryear degree at a wonderful university,” said Dr. Jerry Parker, president of Delaware County Community College. “Many of our students prefer to stay local, and this agreement enables them to further their education at Penn State University’s nearby Brandywine Campus.”

“We’re very pleased to build on the long and collaborative relationship we have with the Community College,” said Penn State Brandywine Chancellor Dr. Kristin Woolever. “This mutually beneficial agreement furthers our mission to provide accessible and affordable higher education opportunities for students in our region and continues our commitment to be invested in our community.”

Delaware County Community College students who graduate with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree and have a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 are eligible. Penn State’s application fees are waived. Other requirements and restrictions may apply. Former Penn State undergraduate students in good academic standing who currently attend Delaware County Community College are also eligible.

By earning an associate degree at Delaware County Community College, a twoyear school with a lower tuition rate, then transferring their credits, students effectively save money in their pursuit of a four-year baccalaureate degree at Penn State.

In addition to biology, business and psychology, Penn State Brandywine offers nine other baccalaureate degrees. The university is currently building its first residence hall at the Brandywine Campus. The hall is scheduled to open in August 2017.
