Chandlee’s hit caps amazing UTC comeback
Down six runs, UTC Union’s stay in the Delco Christian championship series was three outs from ending Wednesday. But Josh Chandlee and company had other ideas.
Chandlee’s two-run single with two outs in the top of the seventh pushed the game to extras, and UTC added seven runs in the eighth to key a 17-10 extra-inning win over DVR in Game 4 of the best-of-five series.
UTC Union, which had trailed 2-0 in the series, forces a winner-take-all Game 5 Thursday night at Interboro High School at 6:30.
Jim Hooven’s three-run home run powered the seven-run outburst in the eighth. Mike Simone provided four hits, three runs and two RBIs. Andy Lockhart homered among his three hits and drove in two runs, and Chuck Tascale added three hits (including two doubles) and drove in two runs.

Johnny Mathis made Game 2 sing with the gamewinning hit with two down in the bottom of the seventh. Bill Leighton drove in four runs with three hits, Frankie Mirgilina added four hits and Joe Battagliani was the winning pitcher, helping his cause with three hits.
Game 3 wasn’t nearly as close, thanks in part to Battagliani keeping the Barnaby’s bats down. Leighton drove in five more runs, as did Ryan Gillan with three hits, and Scott Downs added four hits.
The series resumes Monday at Incinerator Field at 5:30 for Games 4 and 5, if necessary.
