Hearing for charter school variance postponed
COLWYN >> A hearing to move a charter school from Lansdowne to Colwyn has been canceled to an undermined future date.
Charter School Property Development LLC postponed its July 19 hearing with the borough’s zoning hearing board to relocate Vision Academy Charter School to 522 Ellis Ave. for undisclosed reasons. The company was seeking approval to place the educational facility in an industrial area of the borough.
Sean Whelan, the attorney representing the school, could not be reached for comment, and Colwyn Borough Manager Tina Mason said she did not know the reason for the postponment.
The company submitted an application for variance use to the borough in late February which stated the move would be in the best interest of the borough by paying property taxes, improving and maintaining Floyd Park for the school and community and reopening Ellis Avenue off of Fifth Street.
Pending action by the zoning hearing board, Vision will be staying at its current location in the former St. Philomena School at 41 E. Baltimore Ave. in Lansdowne for the new school year, according to the school’s lawyer, Brian Leinhauser, who added that it may be looking to relocate for the following school year.
Vision opened its doors as the first brick and mortar charter school in the William Penn School District last year to students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade.
