Dems hold fall fest

MEDIA » Mid-County and Media Democratic committees hold a Fall Fest 4:307:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Media Community Center, 301 N. Jackson St. Guest can meet the candidates for upcoming races and enjoy food, wine, beer and music with fellow Democrats.

Participat­ing candidates include: Diane Cornman-Levy for state representa­tive; Marty Molloy for state senator; Mary Ellen Balchunis for U.S. Congress. U.S. Senate candidate has been Katie McGinty invited.

Ticket costs are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. The event features a silent auction and a raffle for Philadelph­ia Eagle’s club seats. Two sets of two tickets are to be raffled.

Fair Acres seeks volunteers

MIDDLETOWN » Adults with basic computer skills or a talent for art are invited to volunteer at Fair Acres, Delaware County’s skilled care facility in Middletown. Fair Acres, which is home to 900 residents of various ages, offers many opportunit­ies for people who want to volunteer some time to enhance the quality of life for residents.

Fair Acres is currently seeking individual­s to aid residents in learning basic computer skills, including but not limited to Internet searches and writing emails. There are two computer labs at the Fair Acres complex. Hours can be flexible. No experience is necessary.

Fair Acres is also seeking volunteers who can assist in painting seasonal murals four times per year to brighten the surroundin­gs at the facility. Paint and materials will be provided.

High school students can receive community service or volunteer hours for their time.

Project management cert. at DCCC

MARPLE » For those with significan­t experience working on projects, then Project Management Profession­al (PMP) certificat­ion through Delaware County Community College and the Project Management Institute-Delaware Valley Chapter (PMIDVC) might be the next career step. The college and PMI-DVC have partnered together to offer courses to work towards a PMP certificat­ion.

The college offers two PMP courses this fall: Foundation­s in Project Management and PMP Examp Prep.

• Foundation­s in Project Management brings students up-to-speed in current principles and practices of project management. Taught by PMP-certified practition­ers working in the field as well as academic practition­ers, students can immediatel­y apply what the course material and study for PMP certificat­ion.

The class runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22 at the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media. Cost is $995. PMI members pay a discounted rate of $895.

• PMP Exam Prep is intended for those who have gained experience in project work or may have already taken project management courses, and focuses on how to prepare, study for and take the PMP credential exam.

The course is aligned with PMI’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge - Fifth Edition and includes a review of material normally covered in the exam, including sample test questions. The class runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays Nov. 5 and 12 at the Marple Campus. Cost is $895. PMI members pay a discounted rate of $795.
