Sixers complete Marshall trade, bring in Pleiss
The 76ers career of Kendall Marshall will have been as brief as it was disappointing.
The veteran point guard, a free-agent acquisition a year ago, was traded to the Utah Jazz Friday for two 2017 second-round draft choices, cash considerations and veteran center Tibor Pleiss.
Pleiss is 7-3, 256 pounds but played in just 12 games last season after joining the Jazz following a lengthy pro career in Europe. The German center was the 31st overall selection in the 2010 draft by the Nets, who flipped his rights to Utah in 2015.
Last season, Pleiss averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds. He is scheduled to earn $3 million this season, a figure the Sixers would be able to handle under their salary cap. The Jazz was looking for salary relief.
In addition to its own selection, Utah will have second-round picks belonging to Detroit, Golden State and New York in the next draft. The Sixers will receive the highest and the lowest of those picks.
Marshall was the 13th overall selection in the 2012 draft out of North Carolina by Phoenix. After a stop with the Delaware 87ers, he played for the Lakers and Bucks before signing last offseason with the Sixers. A knee injury delayed the start of his season and he would play in just 30 games, averaging 3.7 points.
The Sixers added point guards Jerryd Bayless and Sergio Rodriguez in this offseason and still have T.J. McConnell in that mix.
