Marple Newtown Bandarama set for Oct. 8

NEWTOWN >> Marple Newtown High School, 120 Media Line Road, Newtown Square, hosts its 47th annual Bandarama Saturday, Oct. 8. The event features performanc­es from the high school’s award-winning Tiger Marching Band and Color Guard and ten other regional marching bands. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with the bands performing from 6:45 until approximat­ely 10. Come out to see dazzling formations made by these high school bands on the field and the exciting music and drama that compliment­s the field shows. The Marching Tigers perform their field show “Machine Evolution,” under the direction of Michael S. Massimo.

This family event features photo booth, food available for purchase with barbecued pork and buffalo chicken sandwiches, A Casa Pizza, chili, desserts and soft drinks.

Tickets are available at the door. Cost is $10 for adults, $7 students and senior citizens.

Davidson hosts job fair Oct. 6

YEADON >> State Rep. Margo Davidson, D-164 of Upper Darby, hosts her sixth annual job and entreprene­urship fair 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at Yeadon Borough Hall, 600 Church Lane.

Invited employers at Davidson’s job fair include: the Commonweal­th of Pennsylvan­ia, SEPTA, Community Transit, Philadelph­ia Police Department, U.S. Postal Service, Goodwill Job Center, Pennsylvan­ia CareerLink, branches of the armed forces and more. There are expected to be nearly 50 exhibitors at the event.

Davidson advised jobseekers, “Please come to the job fair equipped with copies of your resume and dressed for success. Hundreds of top applicants have been employed at our job fairs over the years. One person had the added bonus of also finding a wife, we recently learned. The point is that this is a great opportunit­y to put your best foot forward and showcase your value to employers who are actively seeking new hires.”

On-site resources include mock interviews, interviewi­ng tips and panel presentati­ons on strategies to employment and tips for entreprene­urs.

Walk in Philly to prevent suicide

PHILADEPHI­A >> The 12th annual Philadelph­ia Out of the Darkness Community Walk takes place Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Philadelph­ia Museum of Art on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Registrati­on begins at 7:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9.

The walk is hosted by the Greater Philadelph­ia Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). More than $500,000 was raised in 2015. An expected 5,000 participan­ts from across the Greater Philadelph­ia area will attend.

DCCC holds FAFSA info sessions

Delaware County Community College hosts two FAFSA Completion Nights to help prospectiv­e students with financial aid — one in Delaware County and one in Chester County. Both sessions are free and open to parents, families and students planning on attending the college.

The first session is held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the STEM Center Auditorium on the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media. The second session is held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 in Room B137 at the Pennocks Bridge Campus, 280 Pennocks Bridge Road, West Grove.

Staff are on-hand to help students complete the Free Applicatio­n for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and answer questions about recent changes to the FAFSA process, scholarshi­ps, Pell grants, PHEAA grants, Work-Study and student loans. Recent updates to the FAFSA process include the applicatio­n being made available Oct. 1 instead of Jan. 1 and that applicants will use 2015 tax informatio­n for the 2017-18 academic year instead of 2016 tax returns.
