Union give up late goal, settle for tie

TORONTO >> Justin Morrow scored in the 70th minute and Toronto FC salvaged a point with a 1-1 draw with the Philadelph­ia Union on Saturday night.

Morrow made a run from his left back position, and midfielder Jonathan Osorio laid the ball off to Morrow for a tight-angle shot. Toronto (13-8-9) had its second straight home tie,

Alejandro Bedoya scored for Philadelph­ia (11-11-9) in the 25th minute. Bedoya took a pass from Fabian Herbers with his back to the Toronto goal, quickly spun past the Toronto back line and chipped a shot that looped over goalkeeper Clint Irwin. RED BULLS 1 IMPACT 0 >> Daniel Royer scored his first MLS goal in the 60th minute and New York clinched a playoff berth for the seventh straight year with a victory over Montreal.

Royer headed down Chris Duvall’s cross, bouncing it into the right corner. The Austrian internatio­nal joined New York (13-9-9) on Aug. 3.

Bradley six-game Wright-Phillips’ scoring streak came to an end, but the Red Bulls took a share of the top spot in the Eastern Conference, tied at 48 points with Toronto FC and New York City FC.

Red Bulls captain Dax McCarty returned to the lineup for the first time since suffering a small tibial plateau fracture in New York’s 2-2 draw at Chicago on July 31.

New York extended its club-record unbeaten streak to 13 games. Montreal (9-1011) remained fifth in the East. UNITED 4, ORLANDO CITY 1 >> Patrick Mullins scored two goals and D.C. United (8-9-13) beat Orlando City (7-10-13).

D.C. United won for the first time since Aug. 27, while Orlando City lost its third straight. The teams entered tied for seventh, two points behind New England for the final playoff spot. The Revolution play at Columbus on Sunday.

D.C. United led 1-0 at halftime and scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half for a 3-0 lead. Lloyd Sam headed home Taylor Kemp’s cross in the 51st, and Mullins scored from a difficult angle two minutes later for his seventh goal of the season. RAPIDS 3, WHITECAPS 3 >> Ten-man Vancouver (9-14-8) took advantage of Colorado’s late own goal to tie the Rapids (12-5-12).

Whitecaps striker Erik Hurtado’s header rebounded off the crossbar, deflected off Rapids defender Marc Burch and just over the line in the third minute of stoppage time.

Shkelzen Gashi scored twice for Colorado, making it 3-2 midway through the second half. Badji also scored for Colorado.

Pedro Morales and Kendall Waston also had goals for Vancouver.
