Brittain’s goal, assist pace TCA past Baptist
Grant Sareyka, Brandon Rochester and Jesse Brittain scored one goal each as Christian Academy downed Baptist Regional (N.J.), 3-1, Saturday in nonleague boys soccer.
Caleb Robinson, Tyler Skaer and Brittain contributed one assist apiece, while goalie Andre Jones had three saves for the Crusaders (5-2).
In other nonleague action: GARNET VALLEY 2, SOUDERTON 1 >> Nat Ominsky had both goals for the Jaguars and goalie Tyler Tracy made nine saves. Matt Moore assisted on Ominsky’s second goal, which gave GV a 2-0 halftime lead. HILL SCHOOL 1, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY0>> Toni Adewele scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick in the first half for The Hill School. Matt Freese and AJ Marcucci each had four saves in net for the Churchmen (7-3-2). CONESTOGA 1, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 0 >> Will Baltrus made six saves as the Fords (2-4-2) fell in double overtime. The Pioneers outshot the Fords 15-9. PENNCREST 1, SUN VALLEY 0 >> Christian Evans notched the game-winning goal in overtime off an assist from Max Brown for the Lions. Pat Hughes tallied five saves for Penncrest (73) and Brendan Skwirut had 10 stops for Sun Valley. HAVERFORD HIGH 1, PENN WOOD 0 >> Will Gardner scored the winner in overtime for the Fords. MARPLE NEWTOWN 2, CARDINAL O’HARA 0 >> Luke Ciavardelli and Jonathan Wagner scored one goal each, while goalie Joshua Starr posted the shutout.
Girls Soccer
Molly O’Brien posted a hat trick in the first half and led Episcopal Academy to a 4-1 victory over The Hill nonleague match.
Lauren Cunningham added a goal and an assist while Izzy Rohr had two assists for EA, which outshot the Rams 11-5. Hannah Moriarty had two saves and surrendered the only goal of the game at the 18:26 mark for the Churchwomen, who scored four unanswered goals after that.
In other nonleague action: SPRINGFIELD 3, BONNER & PRENDERGAST 0 >> Freshmen Aiden Gallagher had two goals and Erin Gormley had one of her own for the Cougars, who have now won five games in a row. Kerry McCann assisted on Gallagher’s goal and Alyssa Long had the helper on Gormley’s score. Molly Ryan (4) and Shannon Cutcliffe (2) combined for six saves for Springfield (7-4) while Erin Cardy had 12 saves for the Pandas. RIDLEY 1, DELCO CHRISTIAN 1 >> Sarah Hurley scored for Ridley then Delco Christian’s Alex Thompson put one in the back of the net only a minute later. Ronnie Marie Falasco made six saves for the Knights (3-61) and Sydney Zimmerman tallied three for Ridley.
Field Hockey
School in a
Corinne Zanolli scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Episcopal Academy pulled out a 2-1 win over The Hill School in a nonleague clash. Katie Crager was credited with the assist on Zanolli’s winning strike. Maddie Rehak had a goal in the first half, assisted by Zanolli. Goalie Caroline Kelly had eight saves for the Churchwomen.
Volleyball
Jackie Kelly had seven kills and eight digs and Jess Tait had a dozen assists and seven digs as Ridley fell to Plymouth Whitemarsh 25-10, 25-13 and 2519 in a nonleague game. Melanie June added 18 digs for Ridley.
Girls Tennis
Harriton’s Nina Hoog went into the Central League singles tournament as the No. 3 seed. She emerged as a champion.
Hoog upset top-seeded Ashley Griffith, 6-2, 7-6 (2) in the championship match at the Healthplex in Springfield.
Hoog knocked off secondseeded Grace Henderick of Radnor in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-1. Henderick bounced back with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded Simone Burde of Lower Merion in the third-place match. Fifth-seeded Cassidy Landau of Conestoga downed sixth-seeded Kanon Ciarrocchi of Radnor, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, to take fifth place.
All six players qualified for the District 1 championships, which begin Oct. 7 at Legacy.
Cross Country
Cardinal O’Hara’s Ryan James, the reigning Cross Country Runner of the Year, won the boys gold race at the PIAA Foundation Meet in Hershey.
James crossed the finish line in 15:58 and Gavin Ingilis was fifth (16:28) to lead the Lions to a second-place finish in the team competition. Patrick James (16:58) finished in 24th place for O’Hara.
Anthony Harper of Bonner & Prendergast took 12th in the boys blue race with a time of 17:04.
On the girls side, Eleanor and Elizabeth Mancini led the way as O’Hara took third in the gold race. Eleanor Mancini was 21st (19:44), while Elizabeth placed 23rd (19:54).
Emma Seifried of Sacred Heart finished fourth in the girls white race (20:00).
Isabel Cardi led the way as the Strath Haven girls won the 65th annual Spiked Shoe Invitational at Stevenson University in Maryland.
Cardi finished third in a field of 222 runners with a time of 19 minutes, 7.60 seconds. She was one of four Strath Haven runners to finish in the top 25. Maddie Forbes was 20th (20:05.90), followed by Taylor Barkdoll in 23rd place (20:13.00) and Abby Loiselle in 24th (20:14.10).
Peter Cooke of Radnor finished 20th in the boys championship race at the Carlisle Invitational.
Justin Kelly and Austin Segool of Sun Valley finished 11th and 14th, respectively, in the boys E race at the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational.
On the girls side, Sydney Stribrny of Notre Dame was 11th in the C race to help the Irish to a fourth-place finish in the team competition. Natalie Novotni finished 14th in the E race.
