Joseph J. Hughes, Sr. , 79, of Linwood passed away on Saturday September 24 at Naamans Creek Country Manor. He was born in Philadelph­ia where he was raised and educated. He graduated from St. Thomas Moore High School with the class of 1955. Joe moved to Marcus Hook in 1972 and has lived in Linwood for the past 17 years. He worked as a building supervisor for the Smith Kline Corporatio­n for 25 years until his retirement in 1992.

Joe was also a veteran of the US Army. He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Marcus Hook. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with the Holy Saviour Council #13710. He was a former committeem­an and constable in the Borough of Marcus Hook as well as a lifetime member of the Viscose Fire Company.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty Jo McCann Hughes. Sons, William Hughes(Jamie), Joseph J. Hughes, Jr., and Thomas Hughes. Daughters; Florence Nesspor and Frances DiNardo (William); 10 Grandchild­ren, 7 greatgrand­children.

His funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 11am at Immaculate Conception of Lourdes Church in Marcus Hook.

Friends and family are invited to call from 9am11am in Church.

Burial will be private. Donations in his name can be made to a charity of choice.
