Carolyn Ingham Chandler, a resident of Media for 55 years and a retired mathematic­s teacher from the Wallingfor­dSwarthmor­e School District, died on September 23, 2016 at the age of 88.

Born in Holland, Michigan, Carolyn was a graduate of Hope College in Holland and received her Master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan. She taught high school math in Cheboygan, MI, taught at the then University of Michigan High School, and was an instructor in the School of Education at the University. Carolyn met her husband, Ed, in Ann Arbor, and together the Chandlers relocated to the Philadelph­ia area after getting married in February of 1959. It was there that they raised their family and were active in the community. Carolyn later taught in the Wallingfor­d-Swarthmore School District for 17 years in the high school and the middle school. She retired in 1992.

Carolyn had been a member of the Media Presbyteri­an Church for 45 years where she served as a deacon and an officer of the Women’s Associatio­n. She had been a Girl Scout leader, had been an officer of her Riddle Hospital Auxiliary, was an officer of the Colonial Club and helped distribute Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Sports Club and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Carolyn and her husband enjoyed traveling in their motor home throughout the United States as well as traveling on cruises and tours in Europe and Australia. They also enjoyed being with their daughters’ families and attending athletic events of their grandchild­ren.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar of 57 years; daughters Ellen (Dan) Brookhart of Lancaster, Joyce (Jim) Zandee of Canton, MI and Kathy (Jim) DeWitt of West Chester; and six grandchild­ren, Sarah Brookhart Snead (Ryan), Michael Brookhart, Matthew Zandee (Estee), Rachel Zandee, Bethany DeWitt and Steven DeWitt.

A memorial service celebratin­g her life will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Media Presbyteri­an Church with visitation starting at 12:30 p.m.
