Nihill, Gallen get O’Hara going against Shanahan

Playing at night did not bother the Cardinal O’Hara field hockey team. Neither did being on the road.

Makayla Gallen and Hannah Nihill led the way, as usual, as the visiting Lions rolled to a 6-0 victory over Bishop Shanahan Monday night.

Gallen had two goals and one assist, while Nihill had her eighth multigoal game with two scores to help the Lions (8-0, 6-0) remain undefeated headed into Wednesday night’s showdown with Catholic League rival Bonner & Prendergas­t.

In other nonleague SACRED HEART 7, BRISTOL 0 >> Catie Gordon and Elizabeth Davis scored two goals each and Emily Franz added two assists for the Lions (2-5). CONESTOGA 2, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 1 >> A goal by Meredith Ross in overtime kept the Pioneers (9-0, 5-0) undefeated. action: RUSTIN 7, UPPER DARBY 0 >> Skylar Demis scored two goals to lead Rustin.

Boys Golf

Conestoga’s Ryan Tall finished in seventh place at the Central League tournament as a sophomore. He fared much better as a junior.

Tall was the only golfer to break par and that was good enough to hold off Springfiel­d’s Andrew Todaro for first place Monday at Turtle Creek Golf Club.

Tall fired a 1-under 71 to top Todaro by one stroke. Tall was one of four golfers to qualify for the District 1 championsh­ips. The top 21 finishers advance to the district tournament.

Todaro was one of 14 Delco golfers to qualify for districts. Radnor led the way with eight golfers moving on, including 2015 cochamp Michel Sydnes, who shot a 5-over 77 to finish in a four-way tie for 10th place.

Conor Rinehart was the top man for Radnor. He carded a 3-over 75 to finish in a four-way tie for third place. Also moving on from Radnor are Chris Austen, Will Condran, David Colleran, Blake Stefano, Jake Calamaro and Kevin Seits.

Jimmy Gillespie of Garnet Valley and Strath Haven ninth-grader Kevin Smith tied for third with a 75. David Merz and Ben Newlon of Strath Haven also qualified for the District 1 Tournament, as did Mike May of Marple Newtown. He fired a 4-over par 76 to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place.

In the Catholic League: LA SALLE 222, CARDINAL O’HARA 264 >> Frankie Gregor posted a 2-under par 33 to pace the Explorers. Joseph Taggart carded a 4-over 39 to lead the Lions (10-4, 9-4). ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 249, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 275 >> Dan DiRita took medal honors again for the Patriots (66-1, 5-4 PCL) with a 3-over par 38.

In the Ches-Mont League: KENNETT 199, SUN VALLEY 281 >> Brendn Seleyo and Jared Cavacini both shot 50 to lead the Vanguards (2-11).

In nonleague action:

GLEN MILLS 261, JENKINTOWN 272 >> Kenyun Smith (46) and Casey Stapp (48) led the way for the Bulls.

Girls Golf

Sophomore Samantha Yao of Conestoga fired a 3-under par 69 to capture the Central League tournament at Turtle Creek Golf Club. She was one of seventh golfers to qualify for the District 1 Tournament.

June Kim and Gabby Kim of Radnor took second and third, respective­ly. June Kim finished with an 8-over par round of 80. Gabby Kim finished one stroke behind her sister. Strath Haven’s Lauren Butscher shot 83 to finish fourth.

Girls Tennis

Breanna Reid, Vickie Outland and Rajah Azor swept the singles in straight sets to pace Academy Park to a 5-0 Del Val League triumph over Penn Wood. It was the eighth win in the last nine matches for the Knights (8-4, 7-0), who have already clinched the league title.

Elsewhere in the Del Val: CHICHESTER 4, CHESTER 1 >> Desiree Maugle (first singles) and Angie Deibler and Alex Jung (first doubles) led the way for the Eagles.

In the Central League: RADNOR 7, SPRINGFIEL­D 0 >> Kanon Ciarrocchi did not lose a game at first singles, neither did Clair Burton and Grave Frigerio at third doubles and Natalie Clarke and Priya Ganesh at fourth doubles.

In the Catholic Academies League: VILLA MARIA 4, SACRED HEART 1 >> Emily Robinson won at second singles, but Villa Maria was still able to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Lions earlier in the season. Caroline Lewers, who plays third singles for Sacred Heart, suffered her first loss of the season.

In nonleague action: NOTRE DAME 7, UPPER DARBY 0>> McKenna Bramlage, Caroline McKay and Natalie Hughes took the singles in straight sets for the Irish. CARDINAL O’HARA 6, DELCO CHRISTIAN 1 >> Anna Marie Degnan, Cara Degnan and Nina Ji swept the singles for O’Hara (9-3). Lizzi Matthews and Sam Schaunlank won at third doubles for Delco Christian. CONESTOGA 5, AGNES IRWIN 2>> Carlin Sullivan and Rachel Mashek (second doubles) and Sabina Smith and Jordyn Hurly (third doubles) were the winners for the owls.
