Letter to the Editor Future of the Supreme Court is on the ballot

- Michael Prasalowicz, Brookhaven

To the Times: To all the Republicans who won’t be voting for Donald Trump: Why are you a Republican?

As Republicans, we don’t all agree on the same policies. We each have our own set of personal values and political beliefs. But I think we do have at least one belief in common with each other. That belief is in the importance of the constitutional values our great nation was founded upon.

This November, we have a choice between a candidate who will uphold those values, and one who will not. Our next president will likely have the chance to choose four new Supreme Court justices. We could either have four conservative justices who share the same constitutional values we as Republicans hold. Or, we could have four liberal justices who absolutely do not share those values.

Regardless of your opinions on Donald Trump, the Supreme Court has to outweigh those. Four liberal justices would dramatically change the political landscape of this country, and not for the better. As Republicans, we have to make sure that doesn’t happen. We must hold our constitutional values above our personal opinions for the sake of this country.

If you are not convinced of the validity of our candidate’s Supreme Court choices, look to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s endorsement of Donald Trump. Cruz approved his list of 11 possible picks, and cited those picks as the reason for his endorsement of Trump.

When you’re in the voting booth having second thoughts on Nov. 8, remember why you call yourself a Republican, and vote Donald Trump.
