McClay Memorial Scholarship fundraiser set for Nov. 4
UPPER DARBY » The Jason Scott McClay Memorial Scholarship fundraiser is held 8-11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 at Maggie O’Neill’s, 1062 Pontiac Road, Drexel Hill. The event features raffle baskets, tickets to sporting events, baskets of cheer, and all-you-can-eat or drink food and beverages.

Funds raised in memory of McClay, a 1992 graduate of Haverford High School, benefit two athletic scholarships given annually at Haverford High School, and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Celebrate America with Montco band
LOWER MERION » Merion Concert Band holds a free concert for all ages featuring music on American themes at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Harriton High School, 600 N. Ithan Ave., Bryn Mawr.
The Merion Concert Band celebrates America with a concert titled “This Grand Country.” This first performance of the Merion Concert Band’s 20162017 season celebrates the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service and the upcoming presidential election, featuring music that evokes America’s picturesque open spaces and pieces dedicated to U.S. presidents.
Under the direction of Conductor Nathan Snyder, the Merion Concert Band first takes audiences on a musical tour of America’s vast and diverse landscape, with a program featuring works by Copland, Williams, Grofe, Sousa and LoPresti’s “Elegy for a Young American,” a piece composed to commemorate the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
The Merion Concert Band, an ensemble of the Merion Musical Society, is an all-volunteer band that has been performing in Lower Merion Township and the surrounding region since 1979. For information, visit www.merionconcertband.org
Rose Tree Park goes to the dogs
UPPER PROVIDENCE » Providence Animal Center hosts its Bark in the Park 5K/Dog Walk and Fall Festival 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 29 at Rose Tree Park, Media.
The day kicks off with a dog-friendly 5K Run at 10, followed by a 1-mile walk at 10:45. Registration begins at 9 with pre-race yoga at 9:15. While dog-friendly dogs are encouraged, they are not required. Attendees have the option of “renting” a shelter dog.
The festival portion of the event includes dog contests, a vaccine and microchip clinic from 111, food trucks, a large raffle, nail trims, a Pitty and Puppy Kissing Booth, giveaways, crafts, music and more fun for every two- and four-legged family member.
Pre-registration for the walk/run and dog contests is available at providenceac.org. Medals are awarded for the winners of 5K and dog contests categories.
All walk/run participants receive a finisher prize. Fundraisers who collect a certain amount of donations for the lifesaving nonprofit eceive prizes like a hooded sweatshirt.

Busy weekend at Rose Tree Fire Co.
UPPER PROVIDENCE » Rose Tree Fire Company, 1275 N. Providence Road, holds its annual fire prevention open house 6:30-9 p.m. tonight, Oct. 21.
This is an excellent opportunity for Upper Providence residents to tour their local firehouse and meet the firefighters who volunteer for the community. Refreshments are served.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, the fire company holds a ceremony to dedicate a new rescue pumper at 11 a.m. Come out for this ceremony that dates back to the 1800s.
