Garnet Valley volleyball draws third seed in 4A

As Garnet Valley coach Mark Collins predicted, the Jaguars are seeded third in the District 1 Class 4A volleyball tournament.

The Central League champions received a bye in the first round and host the winner of the game between No. 14 Pennsbury and No. 19 Henderson on Thursday, Oct. 27.

Strath Haven was the only other Delco team to earn a spot in the 4A tournament. The Panthers are seeded 15th and entertain No. 18 Conestoga in the first round Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Penncrest, Radnor and Sun Valley qualified for the 3A tournament. The Lions are seeded fifth and visit fourth-seeded Merion Mercy in the first round Friday, Oct. 27. The Raiders are seeded eighth and take on No. 2 Pope John Paul II, while the Vanguards are the No. 7 seed and visit second-seeded Mount St. Joseph in the first round.

In field hockey, Haverford High was the only Delco team to make the District 1 Class 3A tournament. The Fords are seeded 12th and host No. 21 Perkiomen Valley in the first round Monday, Oct. 24. No informatio­n was available for the other classifica­tions.

Tournament brackets in both volleyball and field hockey are not official until noon Friday.
