Cops: Raid nets stolen gun, pound of pot in Upper Darby
UPPER DARBY >> An estimated pound of pot and a stolen gun were among items recovered during the search of the Margate Road home of a man, now charged with drug and firearms offenses.
Stanley Andre Rawls’ arrest on Thursday marked his sixth involving gun charges, Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.
Rawls, 32, of the 300 block of Margate Rod, is being held at the county prison after failing to post bail, which was set at 10 percent of $2,500.
It was shortly after 6 a.m. when members of the Upper Darby Township Narcotics Division and the Delaware County Narcotics Task Force arrived with a warrant to search the house. Chitwood said the search was the result of two drug purchases made by an undercover informant.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Rawls was sleeping in the front bedroom. Recovered from that bedroom was a black trash bag containing a clear Ziploc bag filled with smaller Ziploc bags containing marijuana, a loaded .380 handgun, a box of .380 ammunition, numerous empty Ziploc bags and a cell phone. Also confiscated was $76 cash.
A check through the National Crime Information Center indicated the firearm was reported stolen from Mount Laurel, N.J.
Noting that Rawls has five previous arrests, Chitwood said, “Every pinch involves a firearm.”
The confiscated marijuana has a street value of about $3,000, according to Chitwood.
Chitwood lauded the efforts. He was especially pleased about the firearm recovery.
“Whenever we recover a firearm, I think we are saving a potential homicide from occurring,” he said.
Chitwood said Rawls cooperated with police during the search.
Rawls is charged with drug possession, possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, firearm prohibited and stolen property.
A preliminary hearing receiving is listed for Nov. 3 in Magisterial District Judge Nicholas S. Lippincott’s court.
