Lt. Lennox Smith, a native of Upper Darby, was awarded the Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) Diversity Officer Recruiter of the Year for 2016 during a ceremony at the Navy Memorial in Washington D.C., Feb. 1.

Selection for this award is a testament to Smith’s talent acquisition expertise and his positive impact in the local community.

“You were chosen for these awards not just because of your recruiting achievements, but because you represent the total Sailor concept,” said Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Adm. Robert Burke at the awards ceremony. “You represent everything we want in our Navy today.”

Smith is currently assigned to Navy Recruiting District Philadelphia. For him, the Navy has been a life-changing experience.

“I have been blessed to travel to places that I would not have if it wasn’t for the opportunities in the Navy,” said Smith. “I have had the pleasure of working with some stellar individuals and every day I count it as a blessing to be a part of this great organization.”

Smith was selected for this award from more than 4,500 Navy recruiters across the nation and around the world. Once a year, NRC takes time to recognize the top 14 Navy recruiters during Recruiters of the Year Week in Washington, D.C. “Navy recruiters truly embody our values and attributes, especially commitment, initiative and toughness as they brilliantly accomplish the demanding recruiting mission,” said Commander NRC Rear Adm.
