James J. Sharkey
James J. Sharkey, 73, of Drexel Hill, PA passed away on February 22, 2017.
Jim, who was born July 4th 1943, was a first generation Irish American who was raised in West Philadelphia and attended St Thomas More High School. Jim started a career in the food business working full time at Amoroso’s Bakery in 8th grade. He then moved on to A&P and Super Fresh, working at the corporate and store level, regionally overseeing and opening meat operations in a large number of stores on the east coast. He was known for his work ethic and never missed a day of work in over 46 years.
Jim was a proud husband and father who spent much of his time volunteering at the St. Francis Country House in Darby, PA. He had a deep love of music that spanned many styles and generations. He was a huge sports fan and especially loved Big Five and Sixers basketball.
Mostly Jim was one of the most thoughtful and caring people you could meet. His heart was filled with kindness. He blessed many people with his “can do” positive attitude and unconditional love. He will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Junie; his children, Jim (Andrea), Debbie (John), Marie, Ryan (Brian) and Taylor (David); grandchildren Zachary, Jacob, Haley, Brayden, Tanner, Declan and Kieran. He is also survived by his brothers, John, Larry, Bill, Frank and his sister Margaret.
There will be a Visitation on Thursday, March 2nd from 9-11 am, O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA 19064. Burial SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
