Widener trustee ‘outstanding director’
Widener University congratulates Paul Beideman ’79, vice chair of the university board of trustees, on receiving an Outstanding Director Award from the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The awards program honors corporate and nonprofit board directors whose service to their boards has demonstrated vital leadership and business savvy, and has helped guide their businesses’ successes. Beideman is vice chair of the Widener Board of Trustees, chairs the Audit Committee and serves on the advisory board of the Oskin Leadership Institute. Beideman is the retired chairman and CEO of Associated Banc Corp., and he currently serves as president of the Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia.
Beideman chaired the university’s presidential search committee in 2015, which ended with the announcement of Julie E. Wollman, Ph.D., as Widener University’s tenth president.
Delco Bar gets state honors
The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) presented two County Bar Recognition Awards to the Delaware County Bar Association during the 51st Annual Seminar of the Conference of County Bar Leaders, Feb. 23-25, at the Nittany Lion Inn, State College.
Recognized for its Local Rules Committee and Young Lawyers’ Run for the House, the Delaware County Bar Association is one of 23 local bar associations in Pennsylvania honored this year for sponsoring projects that improve the legal profession, justice system or community. The awards are presented annually by the PBA.
The Delaware County Bar Association’s Civil, Criminal and Orphans’ Court Rules Committee worked tirelessly to revise local rules. Delaware County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Chad F. Kenney assisted with the updates.
The association’s Young Lawyers Section hosts an annual 5K run for the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. Its 2016 event raised more than $10,000. The Young Lawyers Section will have a room named in its honor at the Ronald McDonald House.
Cardiologists join practice
Cardiology Consultants of Philadelphia CCP has announced that Dr. Samuel R. Ruby, Dr. Howard Gitter, and Dr. Aymen Alrez have joined the Ridley Park practice. CCP serves multiple communities through its network of physicians across Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Ridley Park office is one of CCP’s 32 locations.
Dr. Ruby completed his residency at Jefferson University Hospital and Brown University before completing a fellowship in cardiology at Brown University Hospital.
Dr. Gitter completed his residency at Hahnemann University before completing a fellowship in cardiology at Northwestern University Hospital.
Dr. Alrez completed his residency at University of Texas Medical Branch before completing a fellowship in cardiology University of Texas Medical Branch.

Crozer foundation gets Komen grant
The new Crozer-Keystone Community Foundation announced a $50,000 Community Grant award from Komen Philadelphia. “It’s appropriate that one of the first grants the foundation has received is to address the critical need for mammography and other screenings, diagnostic services, treatment and support services to uninsured, medically underserved and lowincome Delaware County women (and men) to prevent and treat breast cancer,” said Frances Sheehan, president of Crozer-Keystone In her grant award letter to the foundation, Elaine Grobman, CEO of Komen Philadelphia, stated, “This was an extraordinarily competitive year for applicants to the Komen Philadelphia Community Grants Program, and you have every reason to be proud of your selection as a grantee.
