Why residents are opposing Runnymeade Farms development

- Michelle Williams, Newtown Square

To the Times: The following letter was received in connection with the final part of the development of Runnymeade Farms:

There is one point in particular that is misleading to the public. As you say there are less buildings on the second phase. Unfortunately the number of apartment units were lessened by only a handful. I don’t know the exact numbers. This gives the impression that there will be less people and cars in the second phase, which is essentially untrue.

Our residents kept equating putting in a development such as this, smack dab in the middle of our community, was akin to building a small city in our village!

It was also agreed upon by the reaction of the people in attendance that the community of Runnymeade Farms is united against this development. Mr. Halloway and his lawyers are using an antiquated law from 1972. At that time the community felt it only fair to give approval to rental units. Obviously, just look around and that is not the case today. Halloway’s own lawyer explained that clause to us.

Bottom line we feel this would disrupt our community and is just based on greed, not need. We are not opposed to building on the land. We know we can’t stop that. We would be much happier if they built townhomes or carriage homes that were owned, not a rental apartment complex.

If you would just come by and see where this proposed apartment houses are going you would understand how inappropriate this is!!!
