Journey to ‘Oz’ at Springton Lake today
UPPER PROVIDENCE >> Springton Lake Middle School presents “The Wizard of Oz” at 3 p.m. today, Saturday, March 4. Tickets are available at the door for $8.

Springton Lake Middle School students starring in the production are Elizabeth Hughes as Dorothy Gale, Marc Rubin as Scarecrow, Gabi Dupont as Tin Man, Max Guthrie as Lion, Theodora Greco as the Wicked Witch, Gracie Guerin as Glinda the Good Witch, Will Rubin as the Wizard of Oz and Sage Forsythe as the stage manager.
Volunteer to help seniors
Senior Community Services’ Friendship Circle Senior Center is looking for dedicated volunteers who can deliver meals to homebound seniors during the week. The center provides meals to seniors living in Aldan, Collingdale, Darby, Lansdowne and Yeadon. The center is located at 1515 Lansdowne Ave., Yeadon, on the campus of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m.-noon. Volunteer drivers are reimbursed for mileage. Volunteers are also provided with lunch. Those interested need to have a valid Pa. drivers license as well as their own vehicle which is properly registered and insured.
The Aging at Home program is seeking drivers who can take seniors to local medical appointments, the grocery store, pharmacies, and other errands. Giving seniors the ability to get out into the community is a key to helping them remain independent.
Shifts are flexible and SCS provides a secondary insurance that supplements primary car insurance. Interested candidates for this position must possess a valid driver’s license and use their personal vehicle. Volunteer mileage reimbursement is available.

Duffy’s Cut doc at Immaculata
EAST WHITELAND >> Immaculata University holds a screening of a new Duffy’s Cut documentary from Irish American Films, “The Cut: The Journey of the Men and Women of Duffy’s Cut,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1. The film, produced and directed by Shawn Swords, featured Immaculata Professor of History William Watson, Ph.D., as historical consultant. Watson is also director of the Duffy’s Cut Project. The screening is held in the Green Room, with a question-and-answer session following the film.
Several recent Immaculata University History alumni who continue to assist Dr. Watson with excavation at the Duffy’s Cut site, participated in the film as reenactors. The alumni are: Joseph Conte, ’15 of Glen Mills; Matthew McStravog, ’13, of Clifton Heights; Taylor Sims, ’12, of Wayne.
“The Cut: The Journey of the Men and Women of Duffy’s Cut,” is a feature length documentary film about the 57 Irish railroad workers who arrived in Philadelphia to build mile 59 of the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad, and died within six to eight weeks of violence and cholera. ALS beef and beer March 10
HAVERFORD >> Tip O’Leary’s, 300 West Chester Pike, Havertown, hosts the annual Billy Lake Memorial ALS Beef and Beer from 6-9 p.m. Friday, March 10, to support ALS research. Ticket cost of $30 until March 5, $35 at the door, includes beer, wine and food. The heated deck is open and the NCAA basketball conference championships are on 11 huge screens.
